Just got a Playstation 2

Got a PS2 this weekend, the step-son got some cash for his birthday and we went halves, and because I actually wanted a DVD player as well

We also got the Remote Control for it, which is a bit of a con as you not only have to replace one controller with the IR port, but you have to copy 2MB of software onto the Memory Card to get the full DVD functions working.

Looks good, he got Smackdown 3 and GT3, anyone recommend some other "must have" games or accessories ?

THe region-x thing is excellent if you want to watch DVDs from any region (UK only allows you to view region 2 DVDS, while USA = region 1 e.t.c).

You have a top game with GT3. SSX is good for a few games if you want a sports game, or go for fifa2002 which is excellent.

Depends on what games you play really.

Grand Theft Auto is a cracker, that and SSX are my most enjoyed games on the PS2

All depends on how old the "step-son" is, as to whether Grand Theft Auto is a must have... for instance is he's like eight years old it wouldn't be very good to be letting him run people over and murder hookers...

The Madden NFL games are a good laugh, and Tekken Tag is good for some multiplayer goodness.

I can easily imagine an 8 y.o. having £100, my step-son is 13 and he's accumulated a significant fund now (thanks to his very generous relatives).

He went out and bought FIFA 2002 (not surprizing as hes got them all since 1996 or something), GTA3 (smeg knows how), and Red Faction.

Can someone enlighten me on this "Region-X" thing ? I'm quite happy to stick with Region 2 (Europe) as I'm not into watching Galaxy Quest in Thermian, etc.

Metal gear solid 2 is looking great,im not sure of the release date for it in the uk but when it comes out definately grab it

SSX as well,looks great fun,got great reviews although wait for SSX tricky instead which is the sequel and out soon and Time Crisis 2,its old but its a great laugh

region x is great,its a device which lets you play dvds from any region at all and i think its around £20,definately grab it too
