Not had a console since the day the N64 came out

All that with a wireless controller and a memory card for £230, although someone will now tell me I could have got it cheaper

THPS is great, although it doesnt grab me as much as the 3rd one for some reason.

I would have gone with a PS2. If Gamecube works for you though, have fun with it, looks like a pretty decent price. Do they do GC modchips yet?

Really a PS2 you should have got a PC with an emulator for Zelda, or bought a Xbox.


Never consider buying a PS2, my dads got one and im glad I got a Xbox, the only decent game is GTA Vice City and thats coming to PC May 16th, So there is no reason to ever buy a PS2 is got the same processing power as my 4yr old computer

I've got a ps2 and gc. The reasons I got a ps2 should be quite obvious: it will always be the most supported machine, end of. Stuff like FFX, Tekken tag, GT3, already out, and FFX-2, Xenosaga, Castlevania: SOTN2 etc. on the way it can't really be beaten :/

Similarly with the gamecube, it's pretty obvious: Nintendo first party stuff pretty much guarentees 4 or 5 genre defining classics every year, and resident evil, a great series imo, is now gc exclusive.

Xbox has some positive features, you can always use it as a DivX player or something, but a few ps2 ports and rip-offs of ideas shigeru miyamoto had 15 years ago don't make a console :|

btw, I can name about a dozen ps2 games that i'd consider better than Vice city.

I've got all 3 consoles & tbh they stack up like this.

1) PS/2 - Best games at the moment, best games ever since I've had the f'kn thing & i've owned it longer than the other two which gives it the most impressive track record.

2) X-Box - Live!, that is all. Anything else is utterly without consequence.

3) GameCube - until Zelda hits the cube is the most disappointing because a) the N64 controller trounces the current one & b) the current rake of titles out for the cube aren't impressive enough to merit any purchases at full price...... roll on the discounts.

Essentially once the decent Ninty titles hit the cube, I know that my X-Box will become something I play MechAssault and watch DVDs on (only because its in my room & I cba to buy & hook up something decent before those "quality" enthusiasts annoy me), the PS/2 won't get anything but dusty & my Cube will finally have justified it's purchase costs.

But this is just me.

Oh and anyone who goes in for "My console has a bigger processor" is clearly a retarted cross breed between a rotten peach and some form of month old excrement.

The problem with the Gamecube is the Fact u can't play DVD's plus no hard drive, and a lack of decent games, with the execption of rouge leader and Zelda.

But we are fooling ourselves everybody knows the ultimate gaming platform will always be the PC, completely unbeatable in every sense. Just look a keyboard and mouse, need I say more.

Do you know the X-Box HDD actually _SLOWS_ loading times? This has been proven over and over so frankly "no harddrive" isn't a curse. Also tbh I think Ninty played a blinder with there choice of format because afaik its DVD complient just not full size, so even if there sales are lower on this generation release, they've knocked a lot of potential piracy on the head.

As for the PC whilst it is a good gaming platform, I can easily spend ages more time in front of a MegaDrive playing SF2 and enjoy myself or play some Q3/HL variant with a bunch of 12 year old annoying whingers..... /me blows dust off MegaDrive

I'm not a big fan of the FF series but even I can see that it is not boring. The emotion and storytelling behind some of the series (and I am thinking FFVII here) is second to none.

The Cube has more quality games than the XBox at the moment. You forget games like:

The PC is indeed a superb gaming machine - but not everyone has a 2 gig+ machine with a shithot Gfx card. I would hardly call it the ultimate gaming platform though. It does lack in the following departments:

Arcade Shoot-em-up
Beat-em-up
Platformer

the FF series usually have very epic storylines, drawing on your emotions. I can totally see why that'd go past your head, though, as anything more complex than bleeting on is beyond you :/
