Just a question about 3dmark

Abit Kg7 lite (latest 4 in 1's and AGP miniport drivers)
512 ddr ram
Soundblaster Audigy (latest drivers)
Geforce 4Ti 4200 (29.42 dets)
AMD Athlon 1.4

Hmm just a bit of a weird question regarding my 3dmark2001 score. I have 4x AGP set in bios and also i have it set in nvmax at that. I ran 3dmark after i'd put nvmax on and overclocked a bit(280/560 atm, not sure how high to clock the memory) and i had a score of about 8200 on default test. Then i recalled somebody saying its better to 3dmark when you've rebooted, so did and promptly got a score of 7200. I also noticed when i look at my online stats at end of test it says i only have 2x or 1x AGP available on the card, and 2x is selected, even though 4x is set on both bios and nvmax. Anyone any clue as to why?

Click on Mainboard Information and scroll down to AGP Bus section...there should be a Current Data Transfer Rate listed.

What happens if you untick AGP 4x in nvmax?

Well thats the problem, in my bios its set to 4x, in nvmax its set to 4x and yet its running at 2x only, any idea why this would be?

Hmmm, i can't untick, i can set it on 1x, 2x 4x or auto. I also set nvmax to default settings and it still says 2x.

When you installed the VIA 4-in-1 you did uncheck the AGP inf?

I didn't untick anything as far as i recall. BTW at the time i installed the 4 in 1's i had a gf2ti.

I've just uninstalled nvmax and reinstalled the gf4ti 4200 and it still reads 2x in sandra :(

Might have a small conflict since you have an AMD(North)/VIA(South) setup. The North would use the AMD AGP Driver and the south would use parts of the 4-in-1 although I can't remember exactly what or if it only installs the required parts.

Hmm, ok thanx for your help Embattle tis appreciated.

Any way you can think to solve this conflict?

Uninstall both drivers then install them again but make sure it doesn't install the VIA AGP driver, install the AMD AGP driver afterwards.

Hmm i did try but i don't think i uninstalled the via drivers properly. The AMD AGP drivers were easy enough as they had an add/remove program, but i'm not usre about the VIA. I know if i ran the VIA install again it had an option for uninstalling a certain thing but the actual AGP driver bit was a tick to install or untick not to. Therefore if i untick it i think it just doesn't install it again instead of uninstalling.

BTW someone suggested i use a tool called RivaTuner to force the AGP setting(http://www.guru3d.com/files/rivatuner/). Anyway it also states my card supports 4/2/1 but has 2 enabled and that fast write is off(this is another thing thats enabled in bios but is apparently off). When i clicked on the tab for AGP it said it detected bad registery settings for this area. On the tab itself i can see the option but i can't alter anything(presumably because of the bad registery settings).

Ok sombody has suggested theres maybe residual registry settings from my old gf2 card and i need to uninstall nvidia drivers then clean out all nvidia keys in my registry. If this makes sense to you could you tell me how to get rid of all nvidia reg settings?

Sorry to be a pain Emb, really appreciate all the help though.

EDIT: just noticed this, according to Riva my northbridge doesn't even support fastwrite or 4x, wtf?

First thing your Mobo does support AGP 4x (1.5V) so don't worry about that.

When you recieved your old card did you just remove the GF2 and slot this in without removing the driver?

If this is the case then with the VIA 4-in-1/AMD AGP Driver this might add/be the problem.

Read this, slight the way down, to totally remove http://www.3dgpu.com/tweaking/index.php
