Looks like Jordan and Minardi could be back for the 2008 season. As a past Jordan fan this makes me very happy.

Time to dig out the yellow hat and T-Shirt again

That'd be Jordan: and its far too early to get excited yet.

There are currently 11 F1 teams, Bernie claims only 12 will be allowed from 2008 onwards. Those teams that scored points last season (10 of them) will apparently have their entries approved leaving 2 spots available.

Assuming Super Aguri are allowed in (current F1 team, plenty of Honda money, Id be surprised if they werent) that leaves 11 teams fighting over 1 available spot.

Jordan have more chance than Minardi, but of those applications to be made public so far (full list end of April) Pro-drive seem like the favourites to me.

Well, you're assuming the likes of Midland stay the course until 2008; there may be more slots available than you think. I'm not certain Red Bull will sustain two teams over the long haul, and even amongst the big boys there's no guarantee they'll all stick around; there are lots of rumours about Renault for instance. Having said that, I'd agree that Pro-Drive are a more likely contender and Dave Richards could make them a worthwhile runner rather than a make up the numbers player.

I dont expect Midland to last: from what we've seen so far the current owners dont appear to want to invest whats necessary to be anything other than second last (bet they love Super Aguri). But since Mad Max wants to reduce the cost of F1 down to the sort of levels Midland would be able to compete at that isnt necessarily a problem. If someone comes along and buys the team the 2008 entry would come with it: it wouldnt leave a another slot for others unless the team disappeared completely as far as I know.

Itll be interesting to see what happens with Red Bull longer term: just about any motorsport series you look at has Red Bull involved somewhere just now, whether operating a team, sponsorship of teams/drivers/etc. If they decide to pull out of motorsport (and if they were bought over by someone else it would happen pretty damn quick) theyd leave holes all over the place.

Things have changed in the last few years: when Ford/Jaguar pulled out it seemed noone was too keen on buying the leftovers. Now there are more willing buyers than teams for sale.
