He is a good bloke, I like the way he keeps his private life private, doesn't expose his kids to the media spotlight and when his daughter was seriously ill with e-coli a couple of years ago she was treated at Great Ormond Street. They saved her life and has re-visited the place a few times since to spend time with poorly kids there, he also made a £1 million donation to the place which will help other sick children.

He is one of the few 'stars' I really respect, the bloke is a class act.

Nope that is true it seems, the guy doesn't enjoy watching himself perform. Would probably drive himself crazy as I would imagine he would be his own worst critic. He has made quite a few films that he can be proud of though.

Wasn't Depp, not a massive fan of Jude Law so I couldn't say.

He was most famously known pre-pirates of the caribbean as edward scissor hands. However I don't think he was the star in edward penishands

He is one of the few actors that i make sure to watch his movies and from all interviews etc that i ahve seen strikes me as a pretty cool character. This just underlines that impression even more.

Yes lets tar him with the same brush, because he's a celebrity he can't also be a nice guy? Also, stop pissing on a nice news story,

In the cynical business world of movies, thats a pretty reasonable comment. Just out of interest, does Johnny Depp have a history of doing these kinds of things?

For example, Robbie Williams is a shameless self-promoter who when his chain of behaviour is pointed out proves to be a bit of a wanker, does Johnny Depp tend to do this kind of thing? I don't follow closely enough to say for sure either way but since you have such a strong opinion on this maybe you are better informed.

Who cares if it's a publicity stunt, a circlejerk for nearby females, or the 10th step for JD to become the ruler of the universe...the kids loved it.

And i don't particulary like kids, well, below a certain age, but if i was there to meet Jack Sp...erhm...CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow, i'd be giddy too and couldn't care two f*cks about why he was there.

just because something gets publicity doesn't make it a bad thing. It can be a nice gesture and a publicity stunt. I mean look at when celebs donate money and it mysteriously gets on the news, the charity is still bloody glad of it whatever the motive it still helps them.

In other news...

We're supposed to dress up like pirates for work tomorrow, fuck that tbh. It's all very well coming up with these ideas but you try being taken seriously when you are asking the freaky scaghead to please put down the knife and leave the building while wearing stupid trousers and a rubber parrot on your shoulder and see how far it gets you (tbh try being taken seriously when you're me at anytime and it's damn near on impossible).

Now, if they'd let me procure a set of black powder pistols and bring in a real cutlass that'd be a whole different kettle of fish...or I might just go as a modern pirate (i.e. smoking a joint, wear jeans and carry an uzi).

Well i thought it was a nice thing for him to do, he is usually a private person, he rarely does interviews. Its not like he walks around all the time going 'Ooh look at me i'm Johnny Depp, i'm great me...'

Fair play to him

My favourite quote of Depps is from one time in London, he was smoking a cigarette outside some cafe he was at when some lady comes over to him (noone who worked at the cafe. mind) and asks him if he would stop smoking. His response? "We're not in LA anymore, love".

However cockish you might find that, I thought it was funny :)
