This probably look silly but I still wanted to ask it. Cause I'm seriously thinking about it. So keep it a bit serious in replies please.

Do you guys think someone like me (gamer in heart, has a degree in programming and loves to help people (informative)) has a chance to get a job at any MMORPG company or any other game company for that matter?

I just want to know if I even have a slight chance someone would consider just anyone. Cause I've wrote quite some letters to companies that had offers (none game related companies but normal programmer jobs) and like only a few even responded back to me and the rest didn't even bother. And sure I know I don't have the experience of someone who has been in the business for 10 years (so far been programming for about 2 years now for some schools). But do new people at all have any chance? (The unemployment rate has been going up here in my country again and it's really ridiculous that I even have a nice degree that I can't even get a job).

So back to the original question: Does someone like me (and I bet there are plenty of others like me out there as well) have any chance to get a job at a game company?

That all depends how much you want it, how good you are, and what package (hours/salary) you find acceptable.

I got my first job in the industry after univeristy, I wrote to about 3 different recruitment agencies who specialise in placing people withing the games industry. There are many plus and minus points to using a recruitment agency, but they did the trick for me.

Keep at it.

Braking into this industry is the female dog with a capital bit*h. Once you're in, things can only go up(usually).

Like boni said, skills, demands and level of dedication are the main things.

What i could add is, just keep at it, start with low demands, show your stuff and then go for the big bucks(*cough* "big" *cough*).

If you can show your programming skills, it'll make a bigger impact than a plain CV. Employers would rather recruit someone who knows his stuff. Most people exagerate in their CVs, so someone saying he can program in 10 different languages won't get as far as someone who sends examples of his coding ability. Maybe slip in a CD with sample code along with your letters... could only help ;)
