Jessops rant

Went into Jessops today to get a 36 exp of Velvia 50 processed and 5x7 prints made, the chap at the counter said it would cost £7.99, at first he didn't seem to realise that it needed a separate process (with being slide film and not print) but I informed him that it was slide film and that I wanted it unmounted and not mounted.

So, I paid the £7.99 for 24 hour processing and went about my business.

About 3 hours later I get a call from another bloke at the shop, who said that I'd been given the wrong price and that it was going to cost £18.99 to get the film processed (due to it being a slide film) and what did I want to do, so I said I'd think about it and call him back.

I've now spoken to trading standards about the matter (before calling back Jessops), they've got to look into it and will be calling me back soon hopefully.

As far as I know, as I was given a price, (and money has changed hands) they have to honor the price, process the film and produce my prints, anyone had this experience before?

They have to sell it to you at the advertised price, but I'm not sure whether the salesman telling you the price is legally binding or not. If you got a receipt for the original sale they may be forced to honour that.

Victory!

Trading Standards got back to me, and, as I expected, because money has changed hands it forms a contract which they then have to abide by.

The chap in the shop didn't hesitate to get the film processed once I mentioned that I'd consulted Trading Standards :)

The guy probably quoted you the price for developing the slides onto the ickle projector thingies (damn memory), and not actually printing them onto paper.

He should have realised what he was doing given that he was ticking the boxes for '7x5 prints' and 'E6 processing - unmounted'.

Still, their loss, my gain :)

Seens very expensive at 7.99 especially unmounted. Try some of the online places. 7Dayshop do processing vouchers for DLAB7 which are really cheap.

I guess if you need 24 hour though 7.99 not too bad to pay.

Only took 2 weeks to get the developed film back, and they've neglected to produce a print of the best shot, great service!
