Ok, I was thinking of getting a Jap PSP from eBay as they are going for around £100.

As far as I can tell, they will play any game from any country (Obviously this could change with a firmware update in the future)

Their play UK UMDs as they are R2 and so is Japan.

The screen is a better make by Sharp whereas the UK one is a samsung one.

Is there really anything stopping me from getting a Jap PSP?

Advice please

Nothing to stop you unless you are a pleb who hasn't yet discovered the importing is much cheaper and better than buying from rip-off Britain.

Oh, and the warranty issues.

I dunno, I haven't seen anything else. It's meant to have a better quality panel though.

Cheers guys. Once my paypal verification goes through (Should have sorted that ages ago) then I think I shall invest in a nice Jap PSP.

If I buy from lik-sang or something would I get stung with some huge import duty, or do you think my first choice of buying one off eBay from someone that has already imported it is a better idea?

I've got a Jap one, had it since January, bought both Jap and US games, and I played UK UMD Movies on it with no probs, I got that from Ebay for £210 incl Ridge Racer and Postage from Hong Kong.

No Dead pixels, no problems

mind you there were rumours that the UK and US PSP's have a longer battery life, but I don't know if thats true or not.

My cousin got two Jap ones from a bloke for £130 each a few months ago. The guy tested them for dead pixels before sending them out. I'll find the link.

Well, just bought a Jap PSP with 2 games, 2 movies and 512MB and 128MB sticks for £250. Will see what it's like next week when it arrives.

Just hope it isn't a picture of a PSP or a peice of paper with a web link on it :)

Yay

Arrived yesterday!!!! Version 1.50, so the first thing i did?

Of course, I rushed to update it to firmware v2.0 ;)

Balls did I. Been trying out snes and megadrive emulators and playing through Monkey Island again :)

I'm impressed and pleased. Metal Gear Acid was a bit of a shock though. Didn't realise it was turn based.

Me dad's kinda kicking himself as he didn't realise you could bypass the firmware check on most games with some of the launcher apps ;)

Oh well, I'm sure they'll crack v2 soon enough.

Just bought a Jap PSP in Dubai - paid 980 Dirhams at 6.7 to the pound, so around 150. Came with one free game and a leather case. Also purchased the Video kit box set which comes with a 2Gb memory stick for 299 Dhs which is under £50.
