I've had this Problem Since I've Had Half - Life!

ok when i join a online game im on there for about 30 mins or so. my internet occasionly cuts off (damn BT) in the middle of the game. So i reconnect rejoin the server and what do i get

retrying ** ****** *** ***:
retrying ** ****** *** ***
retrying ** ****** *** ***
Retrying ** ***** **** ***
Conenction to server failed after 4 attempts
so i type retry and the same applies..

so i reconnect again and again and again and again.. still the same error message..

The only way to fix this problem is to reboot which does the job.

But why does it happen? i've had this problem with every mod, every patch?

It's because you can't auth with WON< because your `ghost' that was left on when you timed out is hogging your place. It shouldn't happen, but it did alot to me. Someone suggested typing `heartbeat' to try and get WON's attention, but it made no differance. Restarting was the only way i could auth.

I'm not totally sure, but i don't think i've had this problem since switching to Linux and running HL through wine.

If it was a ghost left on the server then it wouldn't retry four times. It would give him a won auth error such as cd key already in use.

Are you quiting cs before redialing, or just leaving it on in the background?

No, it's a ghost left on WON. It is a client problem, which explains why not many people have problems with it.

Next time - just type "getcertificate" then "retry" and you should auth nicely

Heartbeart tells WON your server is still alive.

I got it on modem, and still get it now on ADSL, no matter what conn your on if you get dropped from server in a dodgy way, then youll either have to reset or do the commands you said. I always used to reset as I didnt know about those commands
