And like i said, there would certainly be those who would try/do and stop 'em.

Supposition. The universe we can see is suspiciously quiet, and given the age of the universe, if there are aliens, they should be here by know (or we should see evidence of them written all over the galaxy).

And the likelyhood of the VN reaching us before any of the fleets warning us or trying to join forces with us, as we are at the very hiney end of the galaxy, is unlikely.

Supposition. Why would anyone "join forces" with us, when, as you say, "we're at the bottom of the universal feeding pool". It would be like Rommel allying with an anthill. And if we're important enough to be an ally, we're important enough to be attacked. And if you think like a Krikkit, "importance" is irrelevant anyway, mere existance is enough.

And in any case, even if they had the supoerpower to destroy anyone, the other who could stop them would be more important then us.

Supposition. If all the other intelligent life in the galaxy thinks like you, (except the bad guys) then by the time they knew they were under attack it would be too late, both for themselves, and to get the word out to anyone else (see above, space is suspiciously quiet) After all, it would take a particularly paranoid race to divert economic resources to hypothetical interstellar attacks from unknown forces. If you're that paranoid, then moving on to solve the "problem"before it even occurs is relatively trivial, and as I said, you can do it at little or no risk to yourself.

We are at the very bottom of the universal feeding pool.

Supposition. We have no idea where we sit in the universal pecking order.


Bottom line is that all eventualities are possible; we could be the only intelligent species in the galaxy or we could be the only species who takes an interest in the universe, or we could be the only ones stupid enough to send Bebo messages to other stars, while everyone else is keeping their heads down. But to blithely say "nah, that can't happen because of...blah, blah, blah" is a bit silly.

You're basing your argument on the same thing as i am(no idea of things out there), yet think only the "ultimate destroyers of the universe" are the powerful beings.

I was merely telling what the most logical resons for an alien visit would be, and that won't be to destroy us all.

Also, you missed the point, i said that if there's bad guys, there would be people to stop them. This is because it's more likely that there's many alien races then that there's only one that wants to destroy us.

I'm not saying your scenario isn't possible, i'm just saying it's less likely.

Maybe we are being slowly being adjusted into the intersteller community by 'Culture' like races and eventually join them 'when we are ready' or we are an experiment an asteriod was sent to Earth Billions of years ago with primitive life and was nurtured to begin with then let loose on the planet to see what would happen.

Or in a Star Trek scenerio we have been seen by other races but ignored for being to primitive in there eyes.

I would like to think of a fluffy outcome, however I don't think that will be the case. If there are more mature civilizations surely they would only travel away from their planets once they have conquered their own.... This in theory would surely mean they feel invincible and want to populate and dominate other worlds, not lurve us all and make a race of half breeds (if intercourse is possible of course... anatomically this probably is not possible.)
