Hello FH population,

I am looking to find a new employer as im gathering dust in my current job. I've been looking round and am a little lost as to which agencies i should apply to.

Im looking for IT 1st or 2nd level work. Preferably 2nd level but most companies just promote their own 1st level so i may not have much joy there

Do any of you know any good agencies I should contact?

I dont know if its any help, but my main train line goes to Liverpool Street. I'd be looking for work in South/Central London as opposed to West/North.

Very nice ageny but they do take their cut, great for contracting work as well since they have big names such as BP on their books but i dont think you are interested in that

Could you explain "their cut" please?

I was under the impression, the people paying my wage also paid an additional wage to the agency for several months.

So if the job is lets say 19k, they pay that to me, and X amount to the agency.

Or does the company use part of that 19k to pay the Agency, if so, for how long ?

In my line of work at least, its always the employer that has to pay "the cut" not the employee. Im pretty sure its the same for any line of employment. Its ususally a one off fee, a % of your annual wage maybe.

I work for a recruitment agency and the way we work is to charge the company a percentage of the starting salary of the candidate.

The candidate should not be charged anything, I do believe that that is the way it used to work but not any more, if an agency wants to charge you to register then tell them to shove it.

That's not specifically true, i've been doing some agency work recently and afaik it's they continue to take a cut until :-

A) You get laid off due to various reasons say one of them being not enough work and then they are obliged to find you other work as their contract they offered you has not lived up to the original expectations.

B) The contract expires.

C) You get fired.

and finally ..

D) The company decides they like you and they take you on a full time contract thus nulifying the agency contract you have.

Generally I find agencies to be social rats who leech off other people because most employers cba to do the recruitment process these days. Therefore cutting time and giving the contract to an agency who can and will recruit en mass and fire in the same manner because they can and will do it. Thus I have my apprehensions with Manpower and their relationship with GOA as Manpower have just as bad a reputation as any other agency tbh.
