those of u gits with it, whats your opinions on it? main reason for asking is this will be one of the first games i plan on getting - and i think ISS98 on the N64 is wicked, one of the best footie games imo.

is it similar? or has it gone down the fifa road? i prefer nice tight control like the 64's version, just wondering how the GC's version faired

Basically the same.

Hated it on first play, but later realised I hadn't set the player selection method to the way I used to have it on Snes and N64 (IE: Manual).

Gonna give it another blast after I've read the manual, but looks to be more of the same thankfully.

Got it on me Ps2.

Imho it's better than pro evolution. But then again i iv'e heard winning eleven, the jap version is sposed to flow better in gameplay terms than it's engish version.

Iss pro 2 is pretty jerky, imo Fifa world cup 2002 plays better on the ps2.

This fifa reminded me of virtua striker 2 so much.

The only bad thing about wc2002 is the frame rate though, it chugs along like and old pc trying to hard.

Kinda reminded me of the old fifa games on the original Ps, the way it jerked around:(

Has the Ps2 reached it's pinacle allready?

x box magazine gives it 8/10 which is ok i guess.

It says: good controls|good player intellegence|fantastic atmosphere

Unresponsive players|doesnt look good|no world cup license (well who cares really)

keepers are spose to be crap as well

It does?.

The best soccer game ever in terms of getting it right was world league soccer 98 on the playstation.

Shame the sequal with the better graphics took 10 steps back:(

wls98 had complete fuildity and a freerange of passing, at no time did it feel like it was onrails like nearly all football games.

The most enjoyment id had out of a footy game since sensi.

Pro Evolution Soccer is the daddy of football games. Anyone who says otherwise clearly isnt playing it right. But then, you can't run from your defence and score every time, which may not appeal it to the FIFA crowd.

Same is true of ISS2, but then again PES and ISS2 are made by the same company: Konami (and the makers of PES are directly responsible for ISS on Snes and N64).

Fifa games are ok, but only worth playing when you've no better alternative. Hence why the yearly Fifa games on PC seem to do so well.

i did have pro evolution on the PS2 but was too much of a change to ISS98 - controls just ain't as tight imo

I'll have to see if i can give one a whirl in a shop, if any are still around! :)

Take the rose tinted specs off you will PES is the better game. In it's day SWOS was unbeatabale. But its day was 5 years ago.

Ahhhhhh memories. SS was the daddy.

FIFA games take the piss, especially when there is a nice tourby in the summer to through out a patched version with less teams.
The demo of FiFA2002 (OK, PC version..) was a far better game than any previous FIFAs, so if you consider it, don't piss about with the World Cup rip off and wait for FIFA 2003. It will be the same but prettier and with a new team or two.

ooo, you get yerself in trouble talking like that :). Pro Evo (winning eleven) are made by Konami Tokyo, and the ISS series (ie ISS64/200 and ISS2) are from Konami Osaka, and let's just say the 2 houses aren't known as the best of friends. They don't work together on any of their games (so far) and that's why they've always played differently.

What confuses me though is all the GC Winning Eleven talk. Konami have said that the latest Winning Eleven is coming out on GC, which would in theory mean we'd get WE6 (pro evo 2), but in another piece I've read it claims that the Winning Eleven they're making is a re-hashed ISS2 for the Jap market. Very odd that, considering the history between Tokyo and Osaka :/

We can only hope.

:)

I know they're made by different parts of Konami, which is what I inferred by saying the makers of PES were directly responsible for ISS on Snes & N64 but not the GC version.

Didn't know they weren't bosom buddies though.

Sensible Soccer for Gameboy Advance petition

Hi all,

I read with interest the talk about about best footy game. ISS, PES and FIFA are in my eyes Soccer Simulations, the best of which can be argued.

Other games such as Kick Off, Total Soccer, Microprose Soccer, Emlyn Hughes Soccer etc. mainly retro games because of the capabilities of the older platforms must now be looked upon as arcade style soccer games. Because they are more basic representation of the game. But are arguably more fun due to their quicker arcade pace and more immediate controls.

Horses for course. Different strokes for different folks. Whatever floats your boat.

For me there is only one: Sensible World Of Soccer.

Why not take a look at my SWOS for GBA petition? http://kickme.to/swos/

So it's been featured on Digitiser, C+VG and GamesDomain and I'm pimping it about as much as possible!

bye,
matt
