 All and sundry please suggest a decent modem ISP for playing games on in the UK. State price clearly, especially if there are per-minute charges. If possible, provide a link to the ISP's website.
Thankyou.

I use ntlworld, hooked in to [spit] BT line.

Charges :

Free internet use if you spend at least £15 / month on normal calls (basically you will receive a flat rate charge of £15 per month)

You still have the BT charge for line rental.

Blueyonder (Telewest) is good if you live in the right area.

£10 flat charge or 1p/minute

You need a TW phone line for the flat charge (£9? Might be £9.60) but you can get cable TV bundled with it for the same price.

I don't watch TV... but since the pricing is so good then I think I will try this one. Blueyonder sounds the best so far... keep them coming plz guys. Thanx.
It sounds like a £9 initial fee and then £10 monthly. This is good. I can afford up to abou £20 monthly. My dad might be able to add £5 a month to that. This being my budget, could you keep all subsequent suggestions to below this maximum.
Oh yeah and BWdialup is fine but it does charge per minute call and I will be using the net a lot.:D

Soz mate, you misunderstood (or I mis-phrased) my post.

£9/month line rental
£10/month flat fee

But under any other ISP you would pay line rental as well.

I went for the cable modem (£25/month) - lovely :D

You have to understand :

1. BT charges are rediculuos (sp?) and there service is, for want of a better word, SHITE

2. We live in the armpit of the central belt (no TW, no Cable - hell only running water we have is the burn at the back o' the hoose)

3. NTL offer better charges than BT so .

a. Signed up with NTL
b. They send an adapter box.
c. plug phone into adapter box, plug adapter box into phone wall socket.
d. All call made from the phone are directed to ntl and pick up their charging mechanism instead of BTs

If you spend £15 or more per month on normal calls, internet charges are FREE>

Pisser is that they automatically disconnect you after 2hours.

That's shite. I use BT SurfTogether as I too can't get anything other than phone line. With direct debit discount, costs me £16.50 per month which includes unmetered evening/weekend dial-up with LineOne. I don't get disconnected ever and I also get to use the BT Friends & Family cheap phone calls.

I used to use BT Surftime via Demon and never had any complaints. Never dropped, better then average ping.

Let me phrase my request clearly: I want an Isp which gives 24/7 unmetered after the subscription fee with the fee at less than £25. Simple

200-250? The ping of an 0800 ISP!

When I said a decent ping on Demon, I meant 120-180.

200-250 is great compared with the isps i've used before; Abel - 330+, NGUK - about 350, Madasafish 0845 - 380, Netscape Online - I gave up trying to play anything on.

sorry about the link, a comma got in there; http://www.08002go.com/
