Ever heard of the saying.....you get what you pay for?

I use Freeserve evenings and weekends package, this uses BT surftime and have found it to be good. My pings are 60-70 and sometimes lower.

Most the surftime packages are more or less the same with freeserves being one of the cheapest at £8 a month.....so you'll have to pay more if you change and I doubt you'll see a great deal of improvement else where.

I'm with World Online Freedom 24 package.
Its about to be revised for the March unbundling of the Local Loop but as it stands:

Line rental is: £7.88 + VAT
Freedom 24 is: £12.76 + VAT

This gets u 100hrs access per month any time u want. The down side is that it can run out quick if your not careful and u have to change your phone company.
The plus side is that at 3 and a bit hours per day, it helps you keep a social life in the "real world" and it also has dead good pings and download speeds.

I use a 56k modem and, untweaked, get an average ping of 140ms on BW servers. Has been known to drop lower on a good day/night.

Oh yarse. I am with WOL too, cancelled the net part tho till end of March, when hopefully they'll be cheapski again and I can have decent VFM for me net access. Nice service (apart from the fucking shit number change, and the new number didn't work for me so I had to phone them loadsa times to tell them I'll use a diff number but for them not to charge me for using it etc! phew..)

The only game I very occasionally play online is Q2, so even BT sees me wid nice pings under 145ms. Dunno bout these newer games tho

I was pinging at 30-40 playing Q2 the other night on btconnect, and a very strange 40-50 ping playing tfc, weird realy because as late it's been about 150 on barrysworld servers. Btconnect all the way for me, i can use 2 lines on 2 computers, and it's unlimited, all for my rental, surftime, and the connect isp, which is jack in terms of what it was costing me to use 2 lines when i was paying by the min

yeah im on ng-uk too, it costs £25 / month 24/7.like embattle said, you get what you pay for.in fairness i STILL think barrydial is better and well, i'd have paid 25 quid to them sooner, but i cant.whoops that's another thread....
as far as bt goes god i hate it, befroe i went to nguk i was getting 180-200 ping on uk servers, WITH ISDN!nguk does about 60, while bw was more like 45.

I am in a telewest cable area, and use their phone line and dial up. 1) a cable phone line (dont know why) gives higher and more stable connection speeds than a BT modem. 2) its only £20 a month for their free access and this is not a 0800 number just a standard dial up that they dont charge u for. 3) great pings as low as 135 on some servers, highest ony 250.
