Hey all,

I have had a few RvR encounters recently where opposing realm casters appear to be able to insta DD me to death with 3-4 consequetive shots. Like I say, this has only happened to me maybe 6 times so far, but atleast twice by the same opponent. Unfortunately I (like an idiot) I don't currently have evidence :( as I've twice screwed up screenies to show 1/2 the story.

Essentially what happened is that 3 of us encountered an opposing mage. I quick casted to stun, in between the start of my quick cast and the spell going off he hit me 4 times and killed me. I am not Uber specced and am still kicking myself for not using insta inturrupt as we met, so basically deserve to have have been owned :kissit:

What I don't understand is how he can cast and hit me 4 times instantly (300-400 per hit) and all of this in between a qc'd stun (1.25 secs?). Just to qualify, although template is unfinished I have all resists circa 25%, was fully buffed and have high int & dex. As far as I know I was not lagging at the time.

Has NF given extra insta casts to classes or have the hard cap casting speeds been removed, or is there a new in game enhancement currently is use? Or maybe this is something that is rising with the recent lag problems?

I would be interested in any sensible info . .

NB So far these instances have mostly been limited to opposing mages, definitely by sorc & BD's, but possible further classes as well.

Its normal to get nuked down in 2secs by sorcs (if buffed).
he probably just interrupted your first cast and killed you off before you even knew you had to try cast again.

Other enemies can get the same effect I think, but sorcs are the most willing to abuse the casting bug.

Quickcast is fixed at 2s casting, and the fastest possible cast time for a damage spell (lifetap iirc) is 1s, or 40% of delve. But that still doesn't explain why you were hit 4 times between the qc. What probably happened was that Or, he's "cast" his first spell just as you start quickcasting

0s he casts
1s You hit qc and stun, his spell hits, he queues 2nd,
2s you begin quickcasting, his spell hits, he queues 3rd
3s spell 3 hits,
4s spell 4 hits, had you survived you would have casted stun

Or, assuming this didn't happen, it could have been that either you or he lagged a bit, if you it was just before hitting the qc button, where he had managed to cast 2 spells off and start the third, but neither spells registered as a hit until after you'd started the qc, so by the time the qc spell had "fired", he hit you 4 times. (if he was lagging, it may be that the server didn't register his casting of the spells at the time his client did). I've had a few occasions where a spell hits me just before I see the animation :(

Thanks for the info :D - I definitely didn't get inturrupted on the QC as I thoroughly checked all the details when it happened - I just cocked up the screenie to be able to show it . .

As I said this has happened to me about 1/2 dozen times now where peeps appear to be able to hit you instantly 3-4 times at once. Sorc are definitely the class that has used this on me the most, what is the Casting bug you mention? I don't want to know how to do it, just whether these multi hits are the symptom of a cheat? If it is i'll be much more carefull to get evidence to post to RightNow :)

quickcast sucks, don't use it unless you are being interrupted.
as a void eld you have fast dd, use that instead of stun.
no offense or anything, but i hope you have exped "normally" instead of PL or bought account, that's the only way to get the best out of your char.

Ive had the same thing against a sorcerer in hadrians the other day with Horlely.

Here's what happened:

See sorcerer, start casting stun but see a mincer snealking up on me so i dived behind wall then I got nuked 3 consecutive times and died behind the wall. The sorcerer didnt even start casting on my screen.

There is only 2 reasons for this, either hes a hacking/bug exploiting mofo or goa's servers are really that shit and full of lag.

or mincers chain dd'd your ass to death :D

This had been happening to me to lots recently, couple of mid SM handed me out a right kicking a few nights back.

I start casting and get the your tgt is out of range msg

then when I do start casting..... wham, I am hit 4x on the trot and dead, not even the time to QC stun em.

I really hope its just down to lag.

Just for Info Rath my 50 Void Eld was made the hard way . . . :p I'm rr5.2 and familiar with RvR -

Horlely, you hit the nail on the head m8 :D That is exactly what has now happened to me 6 times - I am hit for 3 or 4 times and die instantly! I'm concerned it's a bug or cheat because I'm sure at least 3 diff classes, from different realms have done this to me. I am also suspicious because it has happened relatively rarely and atleast twice by the same char.

Solarius - from what I recall the encounter went something like this:

1. you target xxx
2. You QC
3. xxx hits you for 300+
4. You are vulnarable to xResist
5. xxx hits you for 300+
6. xxx hits you for 300+
7. xxx Hits you for 400+
8. you are dead - you cease your quickcast preparations

Game didn't display any inturrupt code and in real life timing I had qc stun and was pretty much instantly dead. Was trying to place that in your scenario, but doesnt seem to fit?, I'm as sure as I can be that at the time I wasn't lagging . . .

This is a real mystery to me, which is why this is the first possible cheat I've ever queried on FH or BW.

From what I understand (I dont play casters) if you hit a certain dex (not sure exactly how high you had to go), once you cross that point your casting time is halved and ignores any casting time cap the game might have had.

Thats just scattered info I gathered from VN boards though, but many seemed to hint at some magic number for Dex stat.
I assume thats also in combination with the 10% bonus, but that bonus wasnt mentioned in the hints I have seen.

edit addition:
Also read couple times how the sorcerors cast animation couldnt keep up with the actual casting speed, so in one animation you could get hit 2 times.

Stun is faster than any DD as it's 2.5s base time. If you spot each other at the same time and have similar dex, stun should always win - it always interrupts, because it's CC, while a nuke won't interrupt if it hits late in the cast.

Network lag might easily cause things like this.

Enemy sees you first, starts queuing spells, you lag a bit, stop and start stunning, you see the text and spell effects in a really short period of time when the lag ends even tho everything went "normal" on the enemy side (no lag).

lol :p doesnt work at 408 dex at least!

If saracen can do it, it should be possible for Luries I figure.
Can get +25dex and 10% casting speed from atlantis, 25% buff bonus to buffs.
Other then that I dont think you can exspect anyone to use more than +15dex at character creation.
Dont think theres more to try than that, and some luries must have tried adding more than +10dex at creation, if it doesnt work on them I guess the bug isnt dex related as I thought.

VN forum has whined once and awhile about under 1sec casting and some sort of bug at least, dont know any more :/

But I often meet Sorcs that nuke me down faster than whats supposed to be possible and it cant be lag everytime.

thing is if any good mage starts bombing on you pretty much any class will go down fast.

Combine that with lag and you sometimes get that wtfpwned feeling.

best way to see is really run the chat logger, it has timestamps to when you get nuked etc, might help in seeing how long it actually takes between nukes.

Good idea, but remember the time stamps are rounded to the nearest second.

ah true, but i meant with qc. my bad. if you quickcast a spell, j00r casting is base time = slooooooow. i rarely use stun in RvR, no need for that really. and i read somewhere that even quickcast has a slim ( few % ) chance of being interrupted? i'm 110% sure that my qc has indeed been interrupted, both in PvE and PvP. was a long time ago since it happened last time, but still. could've been a bug, you never know :)

Only way to interrupt QC is to CC the target, stun rocks. Also all QC is 2s so it doesn't much matter what you cast from that point of view.

on my sorc, iv been able to nuke someone who lagged outside of a keep/tower in a large battle and been able to continue to nuke them when they de-laged back inside for a good 4-5 seconds, i nearly kileld someone like that before i realsied what was going on and stopped (cos im a nice chap). I'm not so sure about this "casting bug" your talking about, any 2.5s spell can be cast at 1second, not just sorc lifetap, so dont act like its the mot uber spell ever, its dps is still a good 10-15% lower than a spec nukers nuke (219dd) even cosidering the slightly longer cast time, I'd say its probably due to lag that your getting hit so quickly. But perhaps you should submit a few logs to rightnow, just to make sure something isnt going wrong - who knows maybe you found a real bug?

Pity hibs don't get 219 spec nukes. :p
Also lifetaps have a 6% hidden bonus to damage which gives them DPS on a par with spec nukes.

Yeah my bets on this is just lag as described above.

See it loads in pve too, nuke a mob 3 times, nothing happens (cause im lagging), then the server catches up and whammo, mob is insta nuked 3 times (from my point of view). Same would apply in rvr, and if we are talking about scenarios where you have just encountered albs, well albs + lag go hand in hand..

Maybe try precaching model skins if your not already.

Hi all,

This has happened once more since I posted original thread, and it was again from a char who has done this to me at least once before. I have posted info to right now.

To answer a few of the comments . .

I run a high spec pc on ADSL, so am using pre-cash, etc.. I also run on effects self by habit. These encouters are happening in realtime - the last took place during tower defense through a side window - I strafed, picked up a target using F8, started to cast an Wham instant impact and dead - scroll up and this was actually 2 hits for 600+ damage - the whole episode lasted no more than 2 secs max.

Since I posted this message I've probably died 100 times in combat, and like everyone else have suffered line of sight, lag ridden and impossible long range shots and being killed through walls, etc . . All the kinds of things that lag and poor programming cause . . . This is this only the 2nd time I've queried something like this and I've been playing since beta days - the people doing this know what they are doing, I'm never mezzed, stunned or inturrupted when it occurs.

Anyway, enough whinging by me :p
