IS this a good spec for a mentalist

Hi chaps, finally decided that ill make a mentalist as an alt....

How is this for a spec?

Mana 16
Light 45
ment 25

My theory is ill be able to solo fast with a charmed mob in tow. Ill have all the top nukes for RVR and PVE. Ill be able to do good backup heals for grps. And I have just enough for a reasonable heal and mana regen.

One Thing I do need to know, Is there a mentalist drop guide anywhere which lists all the items I need to pickup along the way??

If any of you high lvl ments have any lowby items you dont want pls let me know....

6 mentalism
This would cost me a healing and para line but the mana III regen might be worth that?

comments pls, im not too sure....

I think the extra heal line may make me more valuable in a grp...

If you're unsure, head for the middle spec..

Think it was currently fine at 36/35/18 (mana, light, mentalism).

Thats an uber spec IMO.

ok so whats better (I know better is not a good choice of words)

1) mana 25 light 45 ment 16

2) mana 16 light 45 ment 25

3) mana 29 light 45 ment 6

Would i be right in saying

Bottom one is best for soloing (out of the 3
Middle one is best for grping (out of the 3)
Top one good for soloing with a reasonable grping healing.
????

Pretty much... but since that is a full spec, you'd be at level 50, and grouping won't be so much a concern...

It does matter how you build it up.. but you seem to want to keep the high nuking.. you should level no probs with that (solo)

Personally, out of the three, I'd take 1, for mana regen 3.

Im 36/35/19 and happy with it. Can charm 45+ mobs with no probs >Have higher light lvl with + items< and with manaregen 4 i still can gain some mana while sitting, even when using my highest charm spell. And still the baseline DD do alot of dmg, when im in RvR. So i will say if u want a really good allroung char, make a 36/35/19 menta, but if u want a pure RvR menta with good DD's make a light one, but u should be aware that lower manaregen's can't keep up with the mana costs when u using higher lvl charm's.

Charm is crap anyway... :eek:

And since the spec DD's don't use alot of mana (and they outdmg the base ones) you don't need manaregen 4.
I'd go 25 - 45 - 16 , 16 for decent mezz/backup heal.

Well... the baseline nuke has a lower casting time... you might not always want to use the spec line... there is also a range difference I believe.

just got a single question.

What can a mentalist charm ? "Humanoids, Insects, ?" and at what lvl ( specc ) do a mentalist get the ability to charm other than humanoids ?

The reason i ask is that i've just made a Mentalist and i wanna know more about it now so i know what template i should make for it, and maybe make a few changes in the one i got now witch is:
Mana: 41
Light: 35
Mentalism: 3

any comments ?

Highest mob i ever charmed displayed lvl 51 and was a bloodletter >Dont know if the displayed lvl was a bug< but it was hard to control. Lvl 44+ islaf's is no prob to control, and i will say that up to about lvl 48 i have good control of my pets. To what types u can charm, i have charmed Bloodletters = Insects, Islaf's = Humanoid, Pookha's = Animal, so i think u got a good varity of mobs to charm :)

I thought the spec nuke is more mana effective ...

i go for

24 mana (power3)
45 light (all nukes)
17 menta (decent heals and mez)

Starting to think that a light specced mentalist is a bit of a waste...

My reasoning....

Well, Charm is pretty useless..imo
DD nuke is good for sure and AOE nuke is good for sure
However, I think by speccing mana to 46 you get the top lvl regen so you can use the baseline nuke and the mana costs dont matter so much..... (yes damage is not quite as good but not massivly different)
And you have the great AOE Dot which is better than the AOE nuke anyway... SO basically you get the same RVR capabilty but the top lvl regens.... and you get the bonus of being able to pump some points into ment so you can heal and mezz really well too..

I think im gonna go

46 mana
13 light
25 ment.

By speccing light you are basically wasting the baseline DD which you wont use, and getting a charm that you wont use.

The AOE nuke isnt as good as the AOE Dot IMO... Speccing light limits you to the bulk standard role... And I think I would go for an eld if I just wanted to nuke things....

Does this sound right?

gotta hate dots, all they do is making it impossible to mezz someone :p

The spec seems ok to me. I started out like that too at first (pumping mana/ment) but soloing with reasonable downtime got really hard so I went full light :)

My best decision yet (thx lary :) ) but it just depends on what you like best really.
That's the cool thing about a ment, very versatile but all can be good.

To anyone saying charm is crap dont know jack shit what they are talking about.

A ment pet does 3 things.

1) is a pet just as any other pet that can be sent to kill etc
2) as all pets it can be sent on stealthers when they run away and keep following even if the stealther restealth(and then attack and uncover him)
3) IT BREAKS MEZ ON YOU!!!! yes you heard me, when you are mezed your charm drops and the pet attacks you, but then you break free of mez and the next pulse automatically recharms it. I rvred for like 3 or 4 hours tonight and this beauty saved me three times from mez death.
4) with 45 light + items and realm ranks you can effectively hold bloodletters up to lvl 53 as pets safely ;) and afaik only pet classes and theurgs can solo a lvl 53 bloodletters.. let alone solo a bloodletter and his mentalist master ;)

And another thing, highest charm that does anything is the fourth one, the others are just a waste of spells as they do not do a single thing, with pot 3 i can use the 4th charm without any power loss as long as im not constantly "in combat". Which means as long as im not getting hit or casting spells my power goes up and not down.

Charm is this word:
Uber

And yeah, ask any mage what they think about aoe on milegate doors ;) its fun! its easy! and it rocks! :)

been thinking a bit more about it... but im still gonna stick with my mana specc....

reasons

1) its a bit different from the norm.
2) its more grp friendly and I am gonna be using this character for grping.
3) I just dont like the idea Pets. (having to go and get them, having to keep an eye on my mana) (sure they do sound good though)
4) the thought of my main damage attack being another nuke, just doesnt appeal...

I think with my specc ill be a very capable healer with the top mana regen and lvl 25 specialist heal. My crowd control should be good to. And the Dots will wear mobs down fast....
Not really to worried about this character being good at RVR since my main is a ranger.... I just want him to be grp friendly

oo just another thought.....

The main advantage to that pet thing sounds like the mezz breaker..... in that case I can still charm some crappy low lvl thing for mezz breaks.(yes not quite as good but hey)

oo and you can send your low lvl thingy to follow a stealther... it will still direct you to him... and reveal him.. you can do the rest...
