Is there any hope Gandalf? For democracy and liberty?

As the Bush right wing steamroller clashes with Kerry in america, the world watches. Will the most powerful man in the world turn out to be an ape once more, barely capable of conversing with a child? Or will he be democrat, perhaps capable of logic, reasoning and governing the capitalist war machine that is america? It's looking likely to be the former. Go to any american forum, game, chatroom, whatever - and the liberals are outnumbered ten to one at least. The amount of facism rife in america is quite scary - they are quite probably the most homophobic country in the world, still racist and very xenophobic - your average right wing american hates Europe but still wants our help in their pathetic "War on Terror" and has the geographical knowledge of a newborn tortoise.
However, throughout this hate-fuelled empire of neon lights and McDonalds, liberalism has been on a slow rise - perhaps as america becomes more multicultural - but is it going to be enough to beat back the facists? This, I believe, could be more important to the rest of the world than ever before. Should Friend Bush stay in for another term... who knows what havoc he'll wreak, under the watchful but twisted gaze of his decrepid advisors? We'll be playing "guess the terrorist" again as Bush Jnr. randomly selects a "towelhead" country to invade. The excuse this time? "He looked at me funny" is just as likely as any... and sooner or later someone is going to get really pissed off with our simian friend. Should he step on the wrong person's toes, the whole world could suffer - I personally don't expect the world, at least as we know it, to last much longer if lunatics like Bush are in charge.

Can we, the Europeans, do anything about it? Not really. So was there any point in this post? Probably not, and I know some right wing lunatic will drop in to flame me a bit before wandering off to set fire to an orphanage, but I felt like I had to say something. What we can do is vote liberal in our own countries - and thus escape the clutch of Bush, should he win.

A democrat win in america is not completely impossible - but from what I've seen it looks to be unlikely. The facist warmongers are oblivious to reason, logic and the truth, and they'll support who they want to. Like all "empires" america prides strength above near everything else - but whereas liberalism supports strength of character, facism supports strength of arms and actions. History has shown that empires relying on the latter fall hard and fast, to the ruin of all involved, and I do not believe this should be any different with america, should the facists continue to reign supreme. So, is there any hope, for democracy and liberty? Only a fool's hope... but let us pray that that is enough.

Bush won't win.

He can't win.

I mean...people can't REALLY be that stupid, can they?

All joking aside, I will be really worried if he does get back in for another term. I'll just keep da faith and hope common sense will prevail in America. ~chokes on his own laughter~

Very nice post Sig.
Yes..as much as the arguments against Bush sound reasonable, there is a core of America thats supports strength above all else.

I have to agree with them, after all the shit gets talked, after every moral angle is explored, disected and discussed again, strength always wins.

People will complain no matter who wins, and Kerry if he won would follow Bush's tactics, and drag out the same tired old reasoning.

There are 2 ways to run the world.

Tell everyone what to do
or ask them nicely

Which one works?

real nice post

tbh there are so many ways of looking at things, i dont really know what to think anymore, but i agree with the part about "sooner or later somone getting really pissed off".

i guess it all depends on what point of view you have, all i know is that what happened on september the 11th scared the heck outta me, and even tho im not american, the sight of partying in baghdad at what happened made me very angry.

enough for me to agree with what has happened in the middle east since? i dont know, understand maybe, not necesarrily agree tho.

Better than having some silly bint who doesn't do/say anything. Hilary was a damn good first lady...her hubby was a pretty lame president though.

Although, judging by what I have read of Kerry's missus, she is likely to cause them more trouble than not with her outspoken nature...should be fun to watch. :)

uhm who is in power effects the US economy what effects the world economy, which effects you.
Who is in power effects the foreign policy, which means wether your soldiers have to leave/die/stay in Iraq and that effects you. And wether Iraq becomes anti western or not will probably effect how the middle east will look at the west and how much oil we can get from there (which effects the price of oil) or it effects the price for what they want to sell it for.

There are probably more and better reasons, why Kerry/Bush is important for anyone (atleast in western europe). Cant be bothered to spend to much time on this though.

US fuel price = $2 US gallon = $2.40 UK gallon
UK fuel price = £3.72 gallon * 1.82 = $6.77

You were saying? :)
