Or have we more beggers now???? I remember the guild of beggers that made life sour for us mids in Emain by pulling guards etc. and running around begging for coin and items all the time. Then for 4 months i have not seen a begger, and now the last 2-3 weeks i meet them almost daily. Its both annoying and fun when a lvl 1 char comes running up, hey do you have 10 gold for new armor???

I tend to give a max of 2g for starting players.... it does help a lot, and the first 10 levels can be a real pain if you have shitty equipment.

Then again, 20s for a lvl 1 is an awful lot of money

5s gets you armor and a weapon so that's all a lvl 1 gets from me

Well the number of beggars at the forge in Camelot has decreased a lot...so i guess they decided on a change of location.

If they used thier imagination a bit, I wouldn't mind giving em gold, but just running up and asking for it is boring.
Like with my alt...I just put autorun on, and faced a wall, then everytime someone walked past /s Spare a few Gold for a poor blind man :D

best one I've seen was a lvl 2 viking needing some finance so hey could slay monsters, so he could pay for medication for his poor sick grandmother

On Excal, me and two friends (can't remember their names now) were all bards. We set up a band in Mag Mell, one on Flute, on on Drums and one on Lute.....and we rolled the cash in!

I ended up with 128g....for a level 4, it was fantastic!

All the high-con guys running past thought we were great, and donated...then we shared all the cash equally.

Go Tree-dom! (Based on a hibbie Threesome...)

The thing is if a newbie comes running up to you dont run off....... I tried to get buffs so many times (from a runie or a shaman) for my newbie but all the senior players run off cause they think Im gonna beg.

When someone stops in front of Gal, she knows exactly what they're gonna say

"Buffs plz"
"Gimme buffs"
"etc..."
"etc..."

Begging happens too, usually goes along like this

"Wow great dress (talking about epic armour), Can i have some gold?"

"beggers of midgard" was once a guild made by a guy ... forgot his name as its on my ignor list for getting me killed and begging all the time. Seems that the death of this guild help the level of begging to lower a bid, for some time. But begging is back and its grand this time. I get begs like:

"Hey give me some cash" - NO!
"heya I need money" - So, I dont because I killed mobs!
"Heya I dont have any money" - Nope, YOUR LEVEL 1!
"hey dont you have a lot of old stuff I can get?" - Heya how about you got to level 5 and then we talked again ?

best on I got was
"hey im new to this game and i'm short on cash" - I talked with him told him about the game, how to kill the right mobs and then I gave him 50silver (he was level 3) and he went and said
"Is that alot?" - for your level it is yes - and he said
"Right, what ever"

Now thats just the kind of people I like, they thank you and they are happy you helped them

STOP BEGGING!

ps. can I beg some plats im kind of short after buy a duskwood shield and a arc hammer ?

thats the great thing about having stealth....

when some level 12, for the 5th time in a row spams "can anyone spare some gold", you just:

Begging can be a pain in the butt :( I gave someone 5g once and they went straight to the dye merchant!!

But then another time I saw some level 15 or so Thane die to some mob he should have easily killed so I talked to him and it turned out that most of his armour and weapons were grey/green and he'd had a really hard time getting grps and cash and so on...so I took him shopping and bought him a whole new set of orange/red stuff.

This game can be really hard when you start out, the economy isnt really newbie friendly unlike EQ where you can farm bonechips and so on for necros. I try to help where I can, but after the time I was told that the 10g I offered someone wasnt adequate and that he needed 20g at least!! I now tend to buy a weapon or a piece of armour for them, if they ask nicely and Im in the generous mood :) .

I haven't seen a beggar for a while, which is a shame because I love dealing with them. I love the reactions after they spend ten minutes trying to appease me to no avail: from Dr Jekyll to Mr Hyde.

Reinnon, your right....

I DID get 128g, but I must have been a higher level. I certainly was a bard, and was playing the lute in our trio.

Oops, sorry.

<Jupitus is bored and wandering around Midgard froum a little>

I tend to refuse beggars usually, or ask them exactly what items they need and craft it for them free of charge (ie don't just hand over cash, qualify what it is they need and give them that)... at the low levels this stuff is so cheap that we're really just talking about time involved.

Occasionally if I am in a new starter area and I see someone struggling a little I'll try having a chat with them in semi-roleplay (ie nothing too heavy, just nice and pleasant).... if they take a little time out to try roleplaying back then they will often be given some money (a couple of gold) and told to 'spend it wisely' and I'll move on.

Funny one once was giving a couple of beggars a single drop each which actually was worth 1 gold .... one of them was very grateful to me and polite and got a set of armour made for him, the other didn't realise the value of the drop and was quite ignorant - he didn't, but I did spend the time to point out to him why not :)

I only had 200g or so but I went out yesterday round low-level hunting spots and gave 100g away. I mean, I don't want to sit and watch paint dry (ie., craft!) and I only need a few gold for horsies, repairing and healers so what the hell. Hell, I would've killed for even 1g at level 5, so why not!

I remember when i was a noob to this game lvl 4 or something i ran around all over the place, and managed to get killed by hyrrrgf or what the cats name is. And there a dwarf and a troll came running killed the cat, and rezzed me. And both gave me 10 gold each. And yelled at me to go get myself some armor or they would arrest me for undecent exposior. Was fun and helped a lot.

What makes DaoC life easier you learn not to appreciate :)

Not being limited in funds at the start is very good , especially for gold demanding classes like armsmen, paladins and mercs........
But at the same time this gold could have gone for door repair, guild fund, traders :) I used to give out gold daily after spending ages at goblins. But now im turning into a selfish bastard :p
Think about it, people you give gold to will not learn to value it like they should. From personal experience i saw some people not picking up the loot due to the fact that they "earned enough already", without having a main character for the transfer.
It makes the XP easier to get, but at the same time disbalances ingame values :p

To all ya beggars out there,
Bite me.....................
And any begger that can find me in stealth will get that 100 gold no questions asked. Earn your gold dammit !!! :flame:

Most likely excal players, playing alts on this server... Hence they are beggers with weird names like...

"Turdfacedtroll IROCKthisSerVERgimmemoneY"

And when talking to them you can easily spot them as they keep saying

Pllllllllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

all the time :)
