There is a K-line on the host Lazzarus!*@* because he is evil. Not that I've ever met him.

I recommend another name.;)

Sounds like your nick has been banned because someone (presumably not you) has been an arse on irc with it. Mail info@quakenet.org and ask them to unblock it.

Bastid Leggy - started to get me worrying.

Just received word back from Quakenet :

You are using a blocked CGI:IRC client. We do not generally allow
CGI:IRC to connect to QuakeNet as it is far too insecure. Use a
different form of connection.

Strange - could access through this last week

I guess its a recent thing. I used to use CGI:IRC myself, though mine was a private one.

just use mIRC. Good for newbies, i dont see why everybody complains about it. Sure it has security issues, from what i hear, but they dont worry me.

Been using it for the past 6 years or so and i've found it great.

(and no i dont use scripts before you bring that one up)

Some people don't have that option. CGI:IRC is handy for getting around certain working restrictions.

ooo. dunno in that case then. i found mIRC got around my schools firewall easily enough.

Any reccomendations on that then?

Munkey, you are an idiot. CGI:IRC Is a web-based IRC client, that uses some sort of dynamic-page loading, to work like a normal IRC client. It only uses port80, like any other website, so will get around any firewall that blocks all but web traffic.

I've also used CGI:IRC on quakenet before, but no for a while. My college's firewall seems pretty good... Either they're blocking ALL ports, apart from 80, etc, or they know which alternative ports people like b0rk listen on :(

Easy way to check...set yourself up a BNC at home and play with the ports...though can you not just SSH home and fire up an IRC client from there?

Yes, except that my computer is on the other end of my phone line :(

I *could* rig it to connect continuously, and upload the IP address to some webspace, however i don't want to go to such lengths, just to idle in IRC for 30mins between lessons :)

M

i'd never heard of it.

Meant "any reccomendations for any people who DO suffer from the connecting problems?" not. "any reccomendations about why i can connect from school?"

Shocko, I just assume people have always-on connections nowadays. Shell account?

For people who are firewalled in, your options are normally the blueyonder web-based IRC client, then CGI:IRC if your IT department really know its stuff (like mine). For CGI:IRC, you normally have to set one up yourself.

Why on earth would you want to actually use IRC?

Try Lazlo (with or without Woodbine on the end, I'm not sure of quakenet's nick length limit) as an alternative. :)
