Almost in the right forum ...
When i connect to irc with a 56k modem at work, or when I used to connect with isdn at home, it was almost immediate.
Now I have adsl at home, and it taks a couple of minutes !
Anyone know why this is ?

Strange. Have you tried different servers? I.e. different quakenet servers, or different efnet servers etc?

Infact, I think it's to do with the ident thing that the server tries to get from you. Your ADSL may not be allowing it, do you have a router or something?

If it's that, I'm not sure how to fix it but someone here will know :D

Yeah I know - i had this problem

If you look, youll probably find its an Ident problem. Basically, it waits a minute for an Ident reponse from your PC - but because you have ADSL (presumably shared) with a firewall(?) data isnt being allowed through.

Just make a new firewall rule to let traffic from port uh 113 through and you shouldnt have a problem any more :]

If you're on XP maybe its built in firewall shit is turned on or something? Other than that I'm kinda out of ideas, but long connection times for IdentD have allways in my experience been due to the client PC refusing the connection for the server. I've been here myself with both ZoneAlarm, Norton Firewall & most recently with my router, but as you ain't got these I dunno what to suggest.
