Looks like I might be getting an iPod soon. Having read the excellent review, it seems that I'll need a Firewire card (I currently have a pre-built Mesh system without such a card). Could I please have some recommendations for a Firewire card.

Looks like I can buy one from Apple as part of an iPod package.

Sure it doesn't have one already? If your machine came with an Audigy souncard (like my bosses) it had a firewire on there

the firewire adapter is a 4-6 pin firewire converter - not an adapter card.

Blimey - now I'm confused. My Mesh sytem has "on-board" C-Media sound. I didn't specify a FW card when I bought the system. The Apple site suggests this one.

(Other specs if relevant: P4 2.53 |512 ram|Ti4600)

Edit: Just have a look through the specs and at the back of the PC; there's no six pin FW points. Is it possible to get a desktop FW hub or is it just simplier to fit a PCi card?

I don't think they make sense, because they aren't that many firewire devices out there, I'd get a usb hub as personally I'm running out of usb ports,

For the money you may as well get a audigy card for the same price. :/

Just buy yourself a PCI card with Firewire ports on it, its the easy and simple:

Audigy or Audigy 2 card is the way to go. Got my iPod last week (well, technically I bought it my wife for her birthday ) and it is very, very good. NB. If you really have problems with Firewire, Creative have just bought out the Zen, which is only a tiny bit bigger than an iPod and has USB and wider file support.

definitely take an iPod over a zen...

firewire hubs do exist, belkin make them.... their main purpose seems to be for firewire networking...

the boys are right just get a pci firewire card... and again i believe apple themselves recommend belkin.
