January 29, 2007

From Times Square in New York City, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates hosted the worldwide launch of Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office System. The celebration paid tribute to the millions of Microsoft customers, partners and product testers around the world who provided input and feedback on these products -- helping Microsoft transform the way people communicate, create and share content, and access information and entertainment in the new digital age.

I got my vista ultimate yesterday, and it's actually better than I expected.
x264 encoding is 30% faster with vista, burning CD's is faster, extracting RAR files is faster.. only problem for me is GFX driver support(openGL).

I like Vista aswell, seems to run very smoothly, my be because it's still running on a newly formatted disc, but seems better than XP... Specially like the new gadgets in it xD Not tried running anything else besides some programs like Visual Studio, Eclipse, NetBeans and stuff. Tried DAoC, but couldn't get it to work on my Business version, crashes right after I click the realm I want to play in, tried all the advices I could find, but nothing worked. Just gonna wait for some more patches, and hope it'll get fixed in time, if I still want to play DAoC by then hehe.

glad ifound this thread, today i have been thinking about buying Vista, but pretty confussed at the mo. I was looking on scans website i was going to buy the home premium version.

How ever when i clicked on the item there was a note in red highlight saying only the 32bit version was shipped and there was information in the box on how to upgrade to 64bit?? wtf??. do you have to pay extra to upgrade to 64bit?

Also the OEM version only costs £75 which sounds to good to be true compared to the £200 for retail. Would the OEM work just the same as the retail or are there some restristions?

hope someone can make it black and white for me, dunno why they have made it so confuseing, theres upgrade versions and all sorts you can buy.

Just be careful, it still has quite some issues and doesn't support opengl etc properly, also if you upgrade to Vista it will invalidate your WinXP key, meaning if you wan't to reformat and use Vista again you'd have to purchase another WinXP key since Vista requires a valid WinXP key to install.

I have a question here:

Does Windows Vista work with DaoC, or does it NOT ???

If it does, it could be of interest but if not why get it now and not in 6 months when the first errors have been fixed.

I seem to remember a friday news from not so long ago, where Goa states that DaoC and Windows Vista are incompatable, or do i remember wrong?

Usual restriction is that OEM software is installed in a new computer, not an existing one. Though depending on the wording you can sometimes get away with it on a new hard drive (probably not with Microsoft).

It's often just a licence, so only any good if you already have the software to install.

Not tested and verified, therefore not supported. May well work, though.

And even then you would need the OEM distribution of the software, as there is a check between the Key used and the Media used for the install.

A nice little workaround for the upgrade version. ;)

Now, however, this workaround allows users to perform a “clean install.” The process is a bit tedious, but is not hard at all to complete. Users have to perform these simple steps to perform a clean install of Vista without a previous version of Windows installed with an upgrade DVD:

1. Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD and start the setup program.
2. When prompted to enter your product key, DO NOT enter it. Click "Next" and proceed with setup. This will install Windows Vista as a 30-day trial.
3. When prompted, select the edition of Vista which you have purchased and continue with setup.
4. Once setup has been completed and you have been brought to the desktop for the first time, run the install program from within Windows Vista.
5. This time, type in your product key when prompted.
6. When asked whether to perform an Upgrade or Custom (advanced) install, choose Custom (advanced) to perform a clean install of Vista. Yes, this means that you will have to install Vista for a second time.
7. Once setup has completed for the second time, you should be able to activate Windows Vista normally. You can also delete the Windows.old directory which contains information from the first Vista install.

There's no telling why Microsoft left this loophole wide open with Windows Vista Upgrade DVDs, but this means that any retail upgrade DVD can be used as a fully functioning full retail copy of Vista.

Change it to run in xp compatability and then add the programmes to the windows firewall defender type programme thats how i got it running here.

Really dont advise buying from scan im having a problem with them atm and its gonna take them at least 8 days now to deliver my items when the other websites i used did it in 2 days. I got told a load of crap about 1000s of orders being delayed over 2 weeks even tho their estimate (over the phone) for my order was today (5 days delivery) which still isn't great.

Not saying theyre like this all the time but i dont think ill ever use them again due to appauling service - ive had to ring them about 15 times for this one order, theyve never even said sorry, infact theyve seemed a lot more like they dont care. I'm at the point where im considering cancelling my order and paying more to go with a company i feel cares.

My main problem is they would only deliver to my cards billing address which is fair enough but i had to travel a long way to get there so phoned before i left to make sure it was going to be delivered on time and got told it would be. Woke up to find an email saying i wont be getting it and the journey was a waste of money/time.

About daoc and vista...

Vista, Camelot, and You

Just a warning - Camelot is not Vista-compliant. If you upgrade to Vista at this time, you may have trouble playing. We're working with all the appropriate parties to try and resolve this issue as quickly as we can, but if you're concerned, you should hold off on installing Vista until I can give you more information. Thanks, all.

hi,

Having had vista on my pc for a month, i can say.......

games seem to load quicker .

but.

having probs while dual logged.

walls on keeps seem to disapear, gets to be a pain when trying to run to the door when being chased bye a bunch of albs and running into the wall cause can´t see where the door is.

grass turns into like reflective water hills are none exsistant so wondering why are those chars standing like 10 x higher than me in the air
maybe vista ain´t compliant with my gfx card (x1900pro) but i have lastest ati driver for vista.

so formated HD and redone with xp now problems are gone.

I did not have that problem on Vista ran my bot in ToA client at 800x600 with lowest gfx possible. And also it dose run with problems untill xp compatibility mode and add the exes to the firewall and windows defender programmes.
