Internet connection sharing...

Lo all me again, ive just gotten ADSL today !! But ive got probs... the host computer which has ADSL running on it is windows ME and it is networked to the computer which i want to hav ADSL on as well. I cant seem to be able to share the connection with the computer upstairs. I tried all the stuff from www.homenethelp.com but it didnt halp at all. The other computer is running Windows XP Pro. I can share folders and stuff over the network but i cant figure out how to share my internet connection. Help wuld be greatly appreciated! thanx v much

Did you get to this page from that link you gave? I don't use ICS myself, but it looks fairly useful from a quick glance.

Wen u gave me that link i literally gave out a "yeessssss" in an angel chorus type voice but its a link to that bastard website www.homenethelp.com. Ive tried everything on that site and its caused nuffing but trouble . Thanx neway, i still need help tho! Thanx v much !

ok so usb adsl to the 98 machine... and with ure nic card use crossover cable or a hub/switch to link up the other pc

now all u gotta do is enable ics and it should work

or u could just buy a router

as far as i know u put the me cd in then go to control panel and go to add / remove hardware


it should be an extra thing in the windows components under networking or summit ?

i use xp u c

but u should just check the box and it will install off the cd (unless u copied the whole cd onto ure c drive)

ive already done that, i installed ics from the me cd, but i need to do sumthing now, but i dont kno wat.

yeh i did everything on the link. I just found teh problem. After i install ICS, i cannot browse the internet with explorer but i can use msn messenger. In control panel system connection sharing has an exclamation mark by it, if i uninstall it and restart i can then browse agn?? Me wants to die, help plz.

would it be easier to use sum other kind of connection sharing software? If i piss about with ICS then all of a sudden i cannot browse with explorer and need to uninstall and restart

I'm going to use the same site again, since I'm at work and ICS is evil (and don't get me started about Windows ME).

Configure your ME (*cough*dear god why*cough*) Server with this

Configure your XP Client with this

If you've done that, get specfic about the errors.
