Internet connection sharing

Hi,

I use ICS at home to allow 2 other pcs to share my ADSL (BTOpenwound) connection.

Its all working fine except that they nick my bandwidth all the time such that it causes lag during my multiplayer games.

Anyone know how I can throttle the bandwidth on the LAN NIC as opposed to distributing bandwidth on the Internet NIC? Actually either would do fine.

Cheers

heh,

best bet is to buy an adsl router like the new DLink (pester gypsy for the model number) and use the onboard management to limit bandwidth to each port evenly or better still give each IP it's own allocation!

Thank you all for being most helpful. I will take a look at iNetShaper and if it doesnt help i'll prolly use Linux on a spare machine although I don't know whether there are sufficient linux drivers to allow me to use the USB Alcatel ADSL Modem from Beatie. I'll have to look at some hardware compatibility lists I think.

I've only had positive experiences with Smoothwall and a NIC-based NTL Cable Modem (they were great and my mates still owe me £65 for selling em the one we were using until I moved).

I've used smoothwall with an alcatel usb modem and it was fine. Alcatel do release the linux versions of it drivers, so it shouldnt be a problem. you might like to try IPcop as an alternative to smoothwall.
