Injuries.

Heres one for you guys.

Following from Perps lovely video, Im wondering if ne1 in this forum has had a nasty accident.

If so - share them with us.

I can think of a few thats happened over the years,

1. Back in the time when spectacles were made of real glass, I slipped in some ice and almost put my face through the pavement. I was successful in putting the broken glass though my eye (which wasnt nice)

2. As I was wandering about with a bandage over my affected viewing appartus, I wandered in front of a home made tree swing with a 6 inch nail sticking out, which went straight through my leg and into the bone - straight back to hospital.

in REAL LIFE the car was going 10 mph not 80 and that kid knocked 5 teeth out of you

Err neer had a broken bone in my body.

Worse pain that i have ever been in was probably chiken pox when i was 5.

Never been seriously (get rushed to the hospital) ill either, guess i am just lucky.

Seem to have developed hayfever this year though which is a bloody wanker.

This is all from Downhill Mountain bike racing...

Had a rib break and go through my lung, re-broke rib 3 weeks later because i didn’t let it heal properly, bruised my left kidney, greenstick fracture in my left arm (where the bone twists but doesn’t break-gad almighty does it hurt) broken knee cap, had my chainrings go into the back of my legs while still turning so they chewed up the muscle and skin pretty bad. Various muscle pulls, cuts and bruises.

Off my bike the worst accident i have had is a dog bite which was pretty nasty, still got a scar about 4 inches long on my leg.

Broke my shoulder blade, and scraped my knees down to the bone when a dog ran under my bike as I was doing a Barry Sheene impression on a roundabout.

To add insult to injury, a motorist behind me described the crash as 'fooking spectacular' .

The knee injury really hurt, and I had to get them drained once every 2 days which wasn't the most pleasant experience in the world.

Way too many to mention. Although some of the highlights were:

1. Broke my femur when I was 2 by tripping over a rolled up rug. I thought that only happened in cartoons

2. I was absailing and my brother told me to take massive jumps down the rockface, so I pushed my feet off the rocks, and zoomed back into it stomach first, and broke a rib.

3. Went horse riding and my horse went through a gate. It rubbed up against the gate and my foot got caught between the gate and the horse. Broke my ankle. Damn that horse Cassius

4. Jumped of a stage in a school drama production, and landed awkwardly on my foot. Had to carry on the scene with a snapped achilles tendon. Oh the pain

Fractured a knuckle on my right hand punching someone.

Fractured my kneecap running into a steel bar (this was the bmost unbearable pain you could ever imagine). Had to spend an excessive time laid flat in bed, several weeks, simplt because I COULD NOT MOVE my left leg without almost passing out due to pain.

Well, lets see....

Hit by a car. saved only by the protective frame of my bike, which wasn't quite so lucky.

Destroyed over £1000 worth of glass by leaning too hard on the cabinet, which then proeded to smash over my head.

Had a guitar fall off a wardrobe ad smash me on the head. I neeed Stiches.

Fell off a climbing frame aged 4. Needed Stithes.

Had a guys tooth impale my forehead, drawing blood (don't ask).

Jumped off a swing in midair and landed wrongly. Broke me arm.

So no, not much then.

I forgot a couple:

Smashing head open on Boxing day, at 4 years old... blood everywhere.
Falling off a rope swing when 11, and landing on my bottom lip. Teeth went through, and I have a permanent lump of lip-tissue on the inside of my bottom lip, where the main impact was. I'm so used to it now, I actually forget it's there.

Guys,

i never realised that there were others as accident prone as I was.

Custy - I hope all your injuries from biking didnt all happen at the one time.

As for my other injury - it kind of pales into insignificance compared to some of these, but here goes anyway.

Back in my younger days, I played junior football (in goals). Now, when u play junior - you're not really meant to play with any other team. I endeavoured to support my works team by turning out for them on a BOUNCE game (baaaaad move).
10 minutes into the game, I came out for a cross ball and caught it. On my way down, I collided with the hip of someone on the way UP (Timing of his jump was WAAAAAY off) ANy way, by "nether regions" (i.e. my ball bag) collided with his hip and brought tears to my eyes (ass all you other guys can appreciate)

Anyway, I finished the game and took off the cycling shorts and lo and behold - I had changed in to Buster Gonads. They were FOOOOKING enormous.

Straight to casualty - straight to the operating theatre.

Last thing I can remember saying to them was "Can you take away the pain but leave the swelling !!!!!".

Anyway turned out I had ruptured an artery in my groin (inside the ball bag) and th only thing that saved my was the fact that the blood had nowhere to go.

Any way to cut throught the crap, they cut me open, cauterised the artery, and stitched it back up.

And BOY was it FUUUUUUCKING sore.


Worst thing was - I got dropped from the junior team

Geezer I know came off his bmx at the local bmx track when we were kids coming off the tabletop...landed, bike went everywhere, he went everywhere...the pedal hit him in the eye...his eyeball ended up 35 feet away...I ended up out cold on the floor...

Injuries :/

1) Was on holiday when i was 5, went to dive into the pool to my dad and my neighbour tried to stop me. She grabbed my ankles after I jumped and I cracked my head full open on the side of the pool. Still got the scar down my forehead :/

2) Was jumping up and down on a bed with my little cousin, slipped and knocked myself out on a radiator.

3) Pulled a desk lamp down on myself when i was younger and broke my nose

4) Broke my wrist when the cunt i was aiming for saw me and moved out the way, I hit a brick wall.

5) Operation on the cross ligaments in my knee when one snapped as a result of falling down a hill

6) Pulled groin muscle when i tried to kick a football too hard after not warming up or anything. (Seriously that fucking hurts)

The worst injuries ive ever had are a strained tendon which took a few weeeks to recover, and a slightly pulled quadricep muscle which only took about a week. N0 broken bones 4 me, cool huh?

I got hit by a bike when 4. nice scars.
A) My leg went through a broken skylight panel in front of a shop (little sqare glass pannels to let light into under ground level) I had shredded leg all the way up to mythigh, hmm blood everywhere.
b)Broke my color bone in Rugby.
c)Ruptured Achilles and broken bone in football/
d)Broke my wrist in football
e)Broke a finger in football
f)Broke heel bone in football
g)Twisted my ankle in prematch warm up and, then had a severe alergic reaction to the bandage used and had severe burns up to knee level.
f)Broke a toe (heheh domestic)
lots of ankle spraines and twists bad cuts and so on.all in football.
Infact I have now bought and kept my own crutches. and keep them handy. I also have lost around 10 toe nails so far and will be losing both of them very shorty (I was planning on making a neck lace out of them.)
Word of advice about toe nails something I found wich I think works. If your toe goes purple and swells and hurts , prick a hot needle through it let it bleed. It worked and I didn't lose my toe nail that time. Can't make my self do it again though.

My flatmate has a horrifc injury (I'm an accident free zone!)

He was pushing a car when the back window gave way. A shard of glass went into his arm about 8 inches. Imagine going to A&E with that in your arm.

Needless to say, it's still a mean scar after 6 years, and when he goes rock-climbing with me, the top of the scar sticks up 1/2 an inch after a good climb. It looks like it's gonna pop.

Don't Know why but we used to rub deep heat on our legs before rugby and football matches, some bizzare concept it keeps you warm. Needless to say every now and then you forget when you go for a piss. I have now learnt to use vaseline instead. heheheh going for a piss not only isn't so painful but for some reason takes longer

As for my toes, it's a combination of of being stumped on and/ or when playing on hard surface the suden stop squashes your toe in the trainers/ boots. And despite my sports injuries I still don't consider my self injury prone, heheh I am in denile. Football season here I come.

I'm an accident free zone really - touch wood - and I've never properly broken a bone apart from my nose/bottom of my skull. Even that was only a 'suspected' fracture because they couldn't tell in an x-ray, presumably cause that bit is made of cartlidge.

Anyway, I 'broke' them when I was playing football when I was around 11 ish. Was jumping up to head the ball and one of my mates did the same thing, we clashed heads and I ended up unconscious on the floor with blood pouring out my nose. I ended up in hospital for 2 days with concussion. The flukey cunt that did it to me had a sore head for about 2 mins. Cunt.

Only other major thing that's happened to me was getting salmonella (spelling?). My brother nearly died because of it - he was in hospital for a month and half and was so weak he couldn't eat. He was on a drip and couldn't even walk to the toilet on his own - a major problem if you have food poisoning. He lost god knows how much weight and looked like a skeleton when he came out. I caught it at the same time but I was well enough to stay home until, sods law, the 31st of December. I ended up spending new year in hospital feeling like shit.

That's about it. I've had all the usual crap like chicken pox etc. The only bad thing that's happened to me lately is the flu, and I continued to go to work when I had it. I'd never phoned in sick before in the three years I've been there and I wasn't about to start.

Didn't hurt at the time, as they spray anaesthetic on, but it bleed for 5 days, and all my paranoia's kicked in (it's gonna split, oh my god)

It's been over a year now, and no problems since I had it done.
