ASP/ASP.NET and MSSQL can be just as powerful as PHP and MySQL, but as both Khan and Mr.47 highlight, as much detail as you can manage is really needed in order to build up a picture of what can be accomplished.
Php is very similar to asp... apart from a few feature differences if you know one you can easily convert to the other.
ASP.Net is very different, ASP.Net is a more structured language and where as you use VB script in ASP you have to use full VB.Net to code the pages in ASP.Net
ASP.Net is also cached, and uses the new dot net platform meaning it is compiled code which also offers performance and compatibility increases. It is truly the next step in Microsoft web-development.
It is not initially easy to convert from asp to asp.net because of the structure differences but since converting I have never looked back.
Another addition is that Microsoft has finally realised that if they provide a community for the language it will provide awesome response and help via other community members, see www.asp.net
It is, if you read the first post it explains this. I posted the site up as a technology test. I got a big project to finish before I start on it again.
