Ok, I think this one is an interesting one to have a stab at. With the access of the internet and how many different types of information that we have at our disposal. Do you think we are being bombarded with information so much that it causes fatigue to your brain?

nope, thats why we got short memory and long term memory
However, we select what we want to remember.
you can train it;)

I know this argument, it's a psychological one that I am familiar with, but that wasn't my point. My point is was put quite succinctly, ie volume, not a memory issue.

There is only so much time to look at the information. So no I don't think we are.

I know that certain kinds of news has far less impact on me than it does on my mum and aunt.

No. There's such a thing as being selective, you know.

Mnemonic. Johnny Mnemonic.

Information excess is everywhere, but as someone correctly pointed out, you can only absorb so much in n amount of time. So, to answer your question:

No.

And then you have the selective cognitive processes, when your brain automatically discards information previously marked as not-important to the deep end of your conscient memory. A simple example is web advertising.

How many of you that don't run an ad blocker remember the actual imagery of the ads, or their subject?

Kinda scaring me as i do :eek6:

I think an overload is possible if your brain is capable of storing all the info given.

So i believe it's a matter of how much info an individual brain can absorb. Failsafes are in place, discard etc, but then we get to the rel core of it;

If you can absorb all the info what will that do to your mental health?

I don't think it causes fatigue to the brain, but let's face it, the media are more than selective.

Yes I've become tired of most types of information, because most things have become so irrelevant. Ofc I like to know about world politics and economy, but hell, I couldn't care less if a bus with 20 tourists explodes somewhere. Sure it's a tragedy for the relatives, but hey, hundreds of children soldiers kill each other in Africa each day and who reports about that? People get mistreated all over the world, who reports about that?

Especially the internet news are like that, so tbh, most things except serious newspapers and news do indeed fatigue me, but not in a brain way.

actually this is something i have covered briefly in my course, we call it information overload and yes it is possible lol, we all had it at study school. there is so much information available now that the whole library and information profession is changing quite dramatically to keep up, in one of my recient course modules i had to look at how things had changed in the library environment over the last 25 years (not a long period of time at all) and the changes are huge, we've gone from reference books and having librarins with stock knowledge from their particular library to librarians who have little stock knowledge because its all on the web.

there are other examples but i shant bore you with them i'll just say that this is an area im very interested in and refining information before gaining it is a very interesting and detailed subject, anyone who thinks its just about going on google is just skimming the surface of a very...very deep pool.
