I can't really see it having a hope in hell taking over from MP3. MP3 has kinda become synominous with 'computer music', and offers a pretty good quality for sound ratio, if you want better you go for lossless compression. Oh well, I'm sure some linux users will use it and feel superior.
You mean a big faceless corporate entity will try and enforce legislation against users of the format, in an attempt to cash in on its use - and then give up when it realises it's being ignored by 99.9% of the population?
Right, just installed it and had a play around, the stereo imaging is very impressive compared to most mp3s, there seems to be some weird noise dithering going on on some high frequencies that I'm pretty sure wasn't there on the original. Weird, heh
Heh, well, I like the stereo encoding, there's a weird comb style echo on the high end that's slightly irritating, but that could be there on mp3s and just wouldn't be picked up. They play in winamp as easy as mp3s, so I'll start encoding to them for personal use when I can find a nice gui for the encoder.
I'm glad you like it mate
I find that they sound ever-so-slightly better than standard mp3s, but that would be a big 'imo' heh. It may well be that the HF stuff that bugs you is the very thing I like about it
