Impersonating services? WTF?

I just tried to connect to the Barrysworld IRC server - it worked fine yesterday.

It goes:

*** Connecting to irc.barrysworld.com (6667)
-
PING? PONG!
-
*** Impersonating Services.
-
Closing Link: Brit[***.********.co.uk] by irc.uk.quakenet.eu.org (K-lined)
-
*** Disconnected

Now, the *** I've put in - don't want my host name blasted everywhere

Does anyone know what this means? Is it a common thing (I don't use IRC as a rule and am completely naff at interpreting the errors)

Now, if I've been 'blocked' by an admin - perhaps they would tell me why and by whom?

Cheers,

I'm no irc nerd but I saw this happen before. It happens when a channel service (person or bot) has a nick that you try and join with. It boots you out for "pretending to be it".

/me prods Zarjazz the irc nerd for a clue.

wow, Ted must be in a good mood. He normally calls me a nerd, period.

the "*** Impersonating Services" ban is for using a nick like the irc service bots eg U or Q.

if your still banned email me your FULL host and I'll check it out.

Thanks guys, it appeared to have sorted itself out. I can now sit in the channels like everyone else for hours on end without actually saying anything
