Man every frikking website i go to about reviews etc there is'nt actually one good review out there yet :(

most forums ive been on the beta testers are telling everyone how buggy/unfinished of a game it is.

they say its boring nothing much to do except missions and more missions no content hardly.

the combat system is a pile of shit according to them too all it basicly is point and click.

sigh its starting to get rather depressing and i can see me not liking this game from the moment i step into it :(

Having a hard enough time it is with MMOs i cant seem to find one that keeps me content since DAOC and UO

i really hope SWG is what all the hype is about and not another lame assed game.

anyone else?

well, everyone, that includes world + dog had their idea of what SWG should be, and when it isn't that, they say it's shite, it's crap, etc

this one pretty much sums up the bad reviews

SlicerHQ news archive

I'd stop reading the reviews, and see if SWG really is the game for you when you get it

besides, it can only get better :)

It is looking very grim atm. I'm going to wait for some solid reviews before I spend any money on this game, atm it doesn't look like there are going to be any. As I've said all along, the game has potential but it has been released too early and still has severe issues that need to be dealt with.

All reviews should been taken with a pinch of salt, they represent that persons personal view. However when so many personal views seem to say the game isn't that good then you have to sit up and take more notice.

I bet they're losing subscribers already, quite deservedly too. When people start comparing a game to the launch of Anarchy Online you know there's a problem.

I was in beta and at the end, i thought it was as good as ready for release.

The advancement through beginning professions is fine - not sure about elite professions - never had the chance to get that far.

Combat isnt boring. What did you do in daoc? Hit a button and just hack away at some lame monster that would respawn after 2 minutes anyway. In SWG you get different postures that actually affect the combat and your tactics - and terrain DOES affect whether your line of sight - its just a bug that sometimes it doesnt - 40% of the time it will let you shoot through something.

The HAM bars (Health, Action, Mind) also add a twist to combat - if any of those reach 0 the target will be incapacitated. Unlike daoc, youre now not just out hit f6, wait for a minute, sit, repeat - you can perform different moves to target a specific attribute on your target.

All i can say is - go in with an open mind and try it for a while.

If you dont like it, at least you tried. If you start to look at what progress weve made since daoc and AO, youll start to appreciate the game. If it wasnt for SWG, we'd still be playing daoc clones - and by clones i MEAN clones - exactly the same systems but with different monsters.

SWG has set out to push the genre further - and must be applauded for trying to do this.

I don't see it pushing the genre further, I certainly haven't read any thing that makes me believe it does any thing truely new.

The main problem with most of these MMOG is the fact that you have to buy the game and then end up screwed if you don't like it after a month.

Their crafting system is really amazing apparentlly and the player based economy is great in my eyes.

Thats the case with all games tho.

No its not at all. You can't take MMOG back to the shop within any time period, for example GAME don't accept them back like they would normal games.

The very reason the MMOG sector of the market is growing is down to the money involved, you get the customer to pay for the original game then get them to continue paying for the right to play the game.

Unlike my other games the game is unusable unless I pay a monthly fee.

I don't think quite as many people would feel annoyed/cheated if they could download the game and then pay the monthly fee, that way at least when you stop playing you haven't felt like you lost any thing.

Alot of what your saying is true but for example where I live you cant take a game back to the shop once you have opened it, so generally I get screwed alot :)

And also a MMO that you could download and play for 30 days or soemthing just doesnt work, it would be to many young and unserious players then. What could work is having a 7-day trial like Anarchy Online where you need a CC to activate the 7 day trial.

I never trust reviews.
All I trust are my own eyes and the feedback from people who's opinions I respect.

I went into SWG beta with little preconceptions, I was initially uninterested in it, but so many of my friends had abandoned daoc for it and I missed their company so I gave it a shot. I just took it for what it was and enjoyed it.
Maybe it helps that I'm not a star wars fan. I like the films (well, apart from episode 1) but that's as far as it goes.

I was in beta to and personally I didn't think it was ready for release, could of done with a few weeks just to get out most of the exploits.

I'm still looking out the window waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my copy though

I think if you have been following all the hype about the game then you are going to be disappointed, I don't think it could ever live up to the hype, maybe in 6 months it will resemble the game people where expecting a little more.

Until then though I'm still going to play though. :D

I forgot to add you shouldn't really pay attention to reviews, they are obviously taken from experiences in beta, while the game is still pretty much the same from beta things like, perma-death, corpse being stuck for days, server wipes, crafting broke for weeks and so on are not exactly going to make for a happy player/reviewer.

well i played AO and to be honest i liked the game for about 4 weeks then i just got fed up with the same crappy missions all the time.

and missions are in SWG im dreading it actually i guess time will tell

but tbh i dont think any game will keep me as entertained for 5 years like UO did

mmoprgs just seem to get crapper and crapper.

one little point...

What no-one seems to mention is that almost every game that gets released nowadays is buggy/exploitable as hell. Thats why we have patches.

I would imagine that we will see several patches quickly with this game which should fix most if not all of the major bugs/exploits and eventually the game will be "stable" as DAoC is pretty much now.

just my 2 credits

I basically agree with everything Deady has already said.

The combat, to me, seems pretty involved. Whilst you can just hit "Attack" and stand there hoping to defeat your for through brute force - in most cases you have to take into account posture, range, special moves, etc to be effective in combat.

The HAM bars concept is both logical and an innovation of sorts.

I think the Star Wars franchise enables people who are otherwise new to MMOs in general (e.g. me) to hit the ground running and be instantly aware of things like the political/fational alignment of certain cities etc - without having to dedicate several days mapping out the entire galaxy.

It has a few bugs, an unfortunate exploit on release (which was fixed on the 2nd day) but nothing that I would've said prevented it from being released. It lacks high (elite profession) content, as you'd expect, but this will only improve with time.

And it looks gorgeous

I'm gonna stick it out for at least a couple of months.

I tried a differnt approach to the game and found a server where a lot of players like to roleplay.

I started again as an entertainer and am concentrating on Musician, so much fun, its like joining a chat server with atmosphere. The Cantina we play (my band) is always full and its gr8 fun to listen to other players talking amongst themselves......last night we had a Rebel vs Imperial skirmish break out when 2 rebels came storming in all guns blazing towards a table of 4 imperials who were enjoying the show. All of a sudden 3 covert imperials and 3 covert rebels joined the fray and we had an all-out bar fight :)

Just starting to get into artisan stuff atm (want to make and sell my own line of instruments) and finding it quite relaxing.

Friendly banter and a place where everyone knows your name, sound familiar?
