Win XP keeps crashing after a game of CS. I go on to ASE, connect to my game, type disconnect from console, escape, quit and then it freezes. The mouse can move but if I click it it stops moving. Works fine on Win98 but voice comms dont work on that.

Have you tried quiting from the console? ie: ``quit'', or ``exit'', or alt+f4.

No, I'll try that. It also seems to turn off mouse look whenever I play CS.

I have to turn the volume on the speakers to max also to get a decent volume. Everything is set to max including the windows setting volume. Again this does not happen in Win 98.

I had same problems with XP, I did the right move and went back to 2k. I didnt realise how much XP fucked up gaming till I went back.

I have to use "quit" in the console to exit the game in win2k. It crashes otherwise.

OpenGL all the way.

I beleave the volume on the menu is misleading. IE you can set it much higher from the console.I don't know how to change the indivdual volumes, but the command `volume' changes the main one.

So see what you've allready got, then try something stupid like `volume 100', you'll get the hang of it :)

You should all know by now that WindowsXP is useless.
I have been there, seen that and formatted.
Basically after about 2 weeks of having it installed it began to slow right down

I mean its all good and well having funky thick title bars and excuses for flash animations all over the place but it eats system resources and as far as gaming compatability goes every game I ran on it worked, well, lets just say they ran but they kept crashing to the desktop, just crashing and re-booting my system.

I have since gone back to Windows2000 which although some say lacks gaming support, every game I have run works fine, and thats a lot of games so if you want a stable gaming system with speed and reliability go with Windows2000.
Definatly the right choice.

I'm going to ignore you, whatever your name is.

MT - I had exactly the same problem (think I posted elsewhere about it). Assuming you're running HL in OpenGL, drop your Windows desktop resolution down to 16bit. Worked for me.

I can now quit HL any way I like and everything's fine every time.

Anyone know a way to disable the 'sticky keys' thing that happens after you press shift a number of times. It's really pissing me off.

Fine ignore me, i dont personally care much for ignorant fucks.
They make me :puke:

Secondly. Stickykeys is enabled by pressing the SHIFT key 5 times consecutivly.
After doing this a dialogue box will popup with a bit of text, an ok and cancel button and a checkbox.

Tick the checkbox which disables Stickykeys and then push cancel.
Problem sorted.

If that doesnt work go to
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Accessability Options
then under the "Keyboard" tab there is Stickykeys at the top.
Press the corresponding settings key and uncheck the "Use Shortcut"

Least some of us know our stuff about windows "SomeGuy"

And which sane person will run their PC in a colour depth of 16-bit.
Frankly unnaceptable. 32bit colour only.
And those using windows XP need to be shot immediatly because that is frankly unnaceptable.
And dont "Choose to ignore" me due to the fact that I have done heavy research into WindowsXP to see whether its worth upgrading to.
I decided no and so installed it on my test machine.
Anyway, have fun

i think i know the problem, you keep mentioning xp. try win2k

i got it on a while back and have never had a problem in cs before (except the usual being shit at it) but i can "exit" and "quit" without a problem.

win2k has been nothing but good to me, except having to diable my *cough* on-board sound *cough* before the damn thing would install.

When i wanna get out of CS/TF i type "exit" in the console simply because its faster to quit than going through all the menu's.

Win2K is definatly their best and most stable operating system to date.
Except DOS which never crashes.
hmm, wonder if i could recode counter-strike to run in dos...

I hit my monitor with a big stick then yell at it a bit. Then I get Buffy and Killy to come in with baseball bats and whack the shit out of the tower.

Then finally we lug it to a nearby bridge and throw it at underpassing old grannies.

I found that nv4_disp.dll is probably the problem seeing Windows XP says that it is. Unfortunately its the main nvidia display driver :/
