So I was out in town for a birthday party last night, but I was the designated driver so I had to take the missus' car (a ten year old 1.25 Fiesta - the slowest car in the world).

I was heading up a dual carriageway, posted limit was 50 mph which I was sticking to. I indicated and pulled out to the right hand lane to allow a car to slip onto the dual carriageway when a large black car came racing up behind me and sat two feet off my bumper in wet conditions.

When i'm in the Fiesta, I just get out of everyone's way, so I quickly moved into the left lane to let him past. However, this black Audi just sat there in the right lane beside me, about one car length behind and not going past. I made a comment to the missus saying "this guy just came flying up behind me and now he doesn't want past...".

This carried on for about 2/3rds of a mile when we approached another slip road with the Audi still sitting there. A tow truck with a broken down car attached was coming up the slip and was going to move onto the road, so I indicated to move out - I either slammed the brakes on and risked hitting the truck, or accelerated and indicated to move infront of this Audi. I dropped a gear and moved up to around 57-58 mph to get past the truck. Once past, I pulled back in again.

The Audi crept up along side me - by this point I was getting pissed off with how he was almost blocking me in the inside lane. I turned to say "what the fuck?!" then I realised it was an unmarked police car. He pulled me over and gave me a lecture on how my maneuver "could have killed him and his colleague along with myself and my missus" - rolleyes.

I explained that the truck pulling onto the dual carriageway left me no choice, although I was very tempted to say "if you weren't driving two feet off my bumer or blocking me in the inside lane then it would never have had to happen". He threatned me with a charge of dangerous driving plus the recorded 55 mph speeding, so I ate a big slice of humble pie, told him he was absolutely right and apologised profusely for my terrible split second decision.

So he let me off with it. Oh well, fair cop I suppose (pun intented).

It's a fucking pain in the arse eh G?

I'm sad to say that my experiences over the years tally closely with yours. In almost every single interaction I've had with them over the years the cops have acted illegally in some way.

Usually I suck it up. Now and again, when I know they can't do much, I act like an arse. Why be pleasant and submissive when they're fucking you over?

Because you only land yourself in trouble for utterly no reason. Unless you like making life harder for yourself for no reason? :)

Yeah pretty much Wazz, very much a case of suck it up since arguing would have done me no favours.

Plod was being a cock; if I had been a police car I would have been entitled to pull him over for tailgaiting in poor driving conditions. Sadly I'm just a pleb :).

Wonder what would happen if I took photographs whilst driving, dangerous driving with the intent to cause terrorism? Sheesh that must be worth 10 years. ;)

Make a formal complaint about his behaviour and lack of spacial awareness, and ask his sergeant to give him a lecture on stopping distances at 50mph.

Fuck him, if he wants to make trouble for you, make his working life hell. Dangerous driving is an extremely difficult charge to prove.

Hmm so speeding plain clothes policeman decides to pay you back for forcing him to drive at the limit for a while eh? You are unlucky but at least no ticket.

If some arsehole does the 2 foot thing to me I'd probably leave him there to sweat for a while personally - impatient idiots deserve a little pain :p

Funnily enough in exactly the same conditions had a pair of twats in an unmarked Octavia VRS hover up my backside on the A45. Immediately emailed the head station in Northampton informing them of the number plate. It's being "looked into".

The police in Jockville are utter wankers

We have far too many speed cameras down here for there to be any police on the road, can't remember the last time I saw a traffic copper pulling anyone over. That costs money and doesn't make much.
