Ok some puppy advice, you need to feed him no later than 6pm otherwise he will be wanting a shit in the night. It will take about a month to get used to when he wants to pooh and stuff and he will wee/plop in the house. The good thing about Jackies is they are a pretty clean breed so he will learn to do his business outside soon enough but you do have to bear with them.

Tonight he will whine if hes in another room but he will be sleeping in your room within a month...mark my words

thanks for the advice trem,i have to feed him just dry food apparently with a bowl of water just twice a day,i'll make sure his last feed is before 6pm.i have to book him in at the vet next week for his injections,he has been wormed already.he is only 8 weeks old.cant take him for walkies yet....but he can play in our garden it is quite large..oh and ive called him jack lol no suprise there as his dad was called the same

probably one for trem this,but any advice on training would be great oh and what toys should i buy him(sensible reply's only please ) bought him a little cage this weekend so he doesn't destroy my kitchen at night.only going to cage him for a couple of weeks a couple hours at a time is this the norm???

If your missus wears tights and ladders them, instead of throwing them away bundle an old pair of tights inside the foot of one of the tights, twist the end, roll back on itself, twist, roll back on itself, so you end up with a big(ish) ball. Tie off the end, but leave enough tight left so you can swing the ball above your head before letting go.

Your dog will love this. My dog did. It'll smell of worn tights, which appeals to fetishists and canines alike, and it's cheap. Double win.

By the by, my knee jerk reaction to caging him at night is that it's a little cruel. Maybe I'm overly sentimental though. Ifyou didn't expect your house to get some damage, you shouldn't have got a dog Over the years, I guarantee you he will eat, vomit on, dribble over, and somehow desecrate much of what you love. Might as well get the worst of it over and done with now.

If you let him out/walk him as soon as he's finished his food, he'll get in the habit of pooing just after meal times. Makes it much easier to manage, as you know you're there then as you just fed him.

Kind of with Lou on this one I'm afraid, its a bit like getting a new car then putting it into storage because you don't want mud on it......sort of......cars don't pooh though.

Maybe keep him in a room at night like we did when ours was a puppy, yes he did eat the carpet but we wouldn't of had him if we thought the carpet mattered more than our dog.

He will drive you bonkers but they do settle down, you kind of have to let go for a while until he learns.

Smacking does not work btw, rubbing noses in their wee also doesn't work, a treat when they do something good works more than any punishment, make sure you make loads of fuss when he wees/poohs outside. Samm almost threw a party when our dog did his first dump on the lawn, she was so proud of him, I wasn't so proud when I mowed the lawn and decorated my jeans in puppy turd but thats by the by.

Not being harsh here scoobs, you know me I'm just giving you my honest opinion.

It would be better to shut the dog in the litchen or the bathroom (or any room that has tiles on the floor) than have it in a cage. I think a cage is torture for a dog. Its a bit like being in a prison. I dont think it does the dog any good.

A dog requires a regular Routine. Getting it into a good routine with bed times, feeding, pooh's & wee's, walks etc and it will be very happy and much easier to live with..

PMSL. got rid of said cage,he is only 8 weeks so no walkies yet,going to take him to the yard when he has eaten and going to leave him in the kitchen at night,see how he goes
