I believe Flaky is one of the mods, set here to push us to the limit and see if we snap. Then *boom* - banned.

Let the "people" of iraq decide.

It's only fair.

that would get my vote

but i guess it would be upto the UN and the War Crimes commity to pass sentence, probably giving him a 5 year jail sentence, slap on the wrist and told not to do it again though :(

Of course, i wasn't being serious.

But in all fairness it would the most ironic thing to do.

Let you have a conversation with him, that'd be torture enough surely?

It may surprise you to know that Saddam once wrote a 3,300 word reply to an American, Chris Love of Pennsylvania, who wrote to him once asking him to make peace with the United States following the 9/11 incident.

Unsurprisingly, the Iraqi server it was once hosted on has disappeared off the face of the Earth, but courtesy of the WayBackMachine you can read the full letter here.

Makes for interesting reading.

According to a Wired article written around the time, Chris had to disconnect his phone, etc to stop the deluge of interview requests. I'm guessing Saddam doesn't make personal replies very often (which politicians ever do, let alone presidents)

He probably doesn't make personal replies cos his maths is kind of out:

Do you know what does this mean ? It means collective death. Your successive administrations have killed one billion and a half Iraqis in eleven years as a result of the blockade it has imposed on Iraq , according to statistics published international organizations , including American humanitarian organization . You can ask them for details , by Internet.

1.5 billion Iraqi's? For a country with a current population of around 25million, probably less, that is certainly impressive, but at the same time makes me doubt that the mail is anything more than a hoax.

Well, Wired, ABCNews, CNN, Fox, BBC News and no doubt countless others (those were the only ones I could be bothered to look for) all ran the story.

That's a lot of respected news sources fooled by a so-called "hoax".

If that is an exact copy of the mail then it is surprise nobody else noticed the typo ), if it is indeed a typo then I doubt someone would send such an email with it in knowing the likely exposure it would get.

Why in cocks name would a typo get exposure? This is a letter written by the President of Iraq to an American. It could say "a have a bunch of balloons, they are blue" and it would still have the same amount of gravitas.

I fail to see how all of the above mentioned news sites would blindly report this email (which, via the WaybackMachine, is hosted on the Iraqi State site) if it was a hoax. Or maybe the Iraqi State webserver was hacked! Maybe all 5 of those major news entities were fooled! Or, more likely, you're just wrong. :(

From reading the letter it's glaringly obvious that he's not 100% fluent with the English language, and that he actually means 1.5 million.

Aye, it's pretty obvious that it's been translated from Arabic, and probably wasn't even written by Saddam but one of his aides. Presumably Bigfoot would return a letter from Osama to sender if it didn't come on headed notepaper.

The point of mentioning the adam and eve thing probably has summit to do with the garden of eden apparently being in Iraq, probably the only part of christianity that Saddam and the rest of the muppets believe in.

It's not exclusivley a 'Christian' belief. Being in the Old Testament it's subsribed to in various ways by Jews, Christians and Moslems (and Gnostics and Satanists for that matter.)
