Ideas on a CS Academy....

From previous posts (most ppl agree that clan based CS is the way it should be played long term). Ive been thinking about starting a CS Academy. The idea is to setup an Academy Clan [ACAD]. New, Newer and Clanless players could join ACAD with a view to improving their team based skills (i.e. get away from DM).

There would be no trials only a desire to play more team based game. Benefits would be :

All the benefits of a clan.
Training Matches within ACAD and against other Clans.
Sense of identity in the CS clan world.

Now here's the cool bit. You could affiliate with leading Clans to act as a vetting area for promising talent. In return affiliated clans recognising ACAD members in the public arena would help out players with the usual questions and impart some knowledge.

Players would have better access to the leading clans (ie. tips, knowledge, watch them in action, better chance of recruitment). Affiliated clans would get vetted talent. ACAD members can in effect pass out into the clan world better prepared. If the recommendations from the ACADEMY are consistently good you could build up quite a network.

This is just an idea. Thoughts? Anybody interested in helping if its viable?

This is almost identical to what SS did in Q2, and it worked pretty well

I'll have a word with the other clan admins and our leader, but in theory we would be up for supporting you.

Sounds like we maybe in business. Stazbumpa I'll email you over the weekend to see what we can come up with. Ch3tan please let me know what the feedback is. If there's a degree of support this could really work.

Other thoughts include tieing in to some of the strategy and mapping sites. Ive got a server ready to host the site and channels, as for a games server we could maybe use public, rent time or hope affiliated clans 'invite' matches against ACAD members. After all the ACADs could learn true clan tactics and the clan gets some target practice outside the current 'honours' system.

Be interested to hear other ideas and support / critics before we put time and effort into the setup.

Interesting Idea

Could have many benefits for the community as a whole. Especially if it helps reduce the number of newbies who just continually get owned and cant figure out why this happens to them.

I've know a number of Good CS players, including [cOw|Ch3tan], who would probably be very interested in this. I'll pass on the details to em.

The sooner this is set up the better.

No there isn't, but I swear I'll never do it again.

Anyhows, if you go to the savage website
http://www.savageuk.com/academy/

you can see savage have set up academy stuffs before. Their Counterstrike thing is Coming Soon, and well basically if you want to start an academy well perhaps contact one of the savage team and say basically u'll run it or summat.

Looks like the support is out there. The idea is different from the Savage Academy. Savage run an Academy league system whereby newly created / inexperienced clans can compete against like minded clans. The ACAD Academy is for bringing together players not currently in clans. Its purpose would be to develop the team aspects of the game, allow clans access to 'team based' players, and generally encourage those who want to play CS the way it should be played.

You could tie up with Savage so players from ACAD could be encouraged to form their own clan and compete in the Savage leagues. Even have a small piece about starting a clan from scratch.

Overall the whole thing rests on the leading clans to provide support. There is no point providing access and training if there is no positive end result. i.e. "now your good clan xxxx will talk to you."

Ideas welcomed...

Thought I'd chuck in my ha'penny.

I started the Savage Academy (www.savageuk.com/academy) as basically a spin-off from the main league for new clans in order to get them used to the idea of adminned games, not spamming the server, basic etiquette, etc...

...and as you can see it sort of died a fairly ungracious death in August last year - mainly due to the fact that:

a) Newbie clans were few and far between
b) More servers meant that the league expanded and swallowed up the Academy.

However, the idea of the "newbie clan" is probably a bit old fashioned these days - people tend to actually be a bit more "clued up" clan-wise.

However there is a market for this sort of "Player Academy" and I have been spending some time working with CAPS (SavageUK's player registration system) in order to try and automate some form of "structured merc games" - much like the Suicide Squad Academy used to run (www.suicidesquad.org)...however I believe that SS have copyrighted that idea...perhaps someone can verify this?

I can probably lend a hand with whatever you end up creating - although I'm a bit of a CS llama myself and could probably both help you organise it, and also benefit from it too...

Contact me (mrb@savageuk.com) if you would like to discuss this further (re: servers, webspace, web-back end DB, etc...)

My clan registered on savage CAPs system, and I have found big probs with it. Tried to change my e-mail because it was incorrectly entered, and it came up with loads of error messages. Mr B> is work still going on to perfect CAPS?

CAPS is continually being refined, tweaked (and most of all bug fixed :D) - but this is done very much on an ad-hoc, whenever anyone who knows PHP/MySQL has a few spare moments...

If you have any problems with it - then there's a mail address to send your queries/complaints to...which is: caps@savageuk.com.
