Anyone know why i cant get an IDE writer to work from within nt?? I have loaded the stupid winaspi shut just in case but Adaptec Easy cd creator refuses to see the device.

Other programs can see its a writer but not actually use it? Suggestions?

Nero, see's every writer in existence and can use it to its full potential.

I have a Waitec 4x SCSI writer and do u think there are NT4 drivers for that?

no chance.

Im running NT4 Server, nero works, u dont need ASPI drivers, or anything.. just the scsi or ide device drivers NT supplys will work fine.

I have an Adaptec-7880.

but ur IDE WILL work for sure, i can promise you.

Andy - you're not the only one with problems m8

I have an AOpen CDW9624 (won the November PC Pro CD writer labs) IDE CD-RW drive running in NT4 Server SP5, however my problems are not just with CD-RW - they are with ASPI in general on NT.

My first problems were with AudioCatalyst, which said that ASPI was not installed and that I should do so. It provided a link to the Adaptec ASPI32 drivers that are supposed to work. Result - blue screen trying to launch AudioCatalyst

I uninstall the ASPI (by reg-edting) and launch AudioCatalyst again - fine except that I can only use analogue CD access methods. Not ideal.

Nero tells the same story - ASPI is required, so I try again. A lovely Blue screen swiftly follows

I try Adaptec Easy CD Creator. This sneakily sticks the same ASPI drivers on with the predictable result.

The machine is dual boot (NT4/Win98) and everything works fine in Win98, however that's not the point.

Has ne1 at all had any success with ASPI in NT? If so, please please post the solution here.

Cheers,

I install win98 and voila it works. Easy cd still doesnt see it as a usable writer though.

Just as well i only need Nero and CDRWin for *cough* stuff i get from work.
