I have 2 hard drives, a CDRW and a DVD ROM. Currently I have the 2 hard drives on the primary IDE channel and the other 2 on the secondary IDE channel. Is this the best setup for performance?

thnx

depends what u do with em, its faster to copy HD to HD if theyr on separate channels. but if u dont really do much hefty data handling its not very important. Its useful for burning CDs in your current setup cos u get less risk of the burn buffer underrunning and fooking a CD, but for better cd>cd copying youd do well to swap a CD with a HDD.

Also it migh tbe an idea to have yer system disk on one channel and ur data(porn/games/work/programs/etc..) on the other. will improve paging speed etc and generally make things go slighty smoother.

But tbh, if it aint broken dont fix it.

I always stick HD as primary and chain a CD drive as slave. Not sure if it really does anything much, but im sure someone told me a good technical reason for doing it once.

Doesn't a cd /dvd drive take your ide channel transfer rate down to 66 or 33 depending on the drive and if you chain it with a hdd doesnt that then go to 66 or 33 instead of 100 or 133 ?
