What the hell is the deal with ICQ recently?

I am used to the pager messages constantly offering me porn, but this just takes the biscuit -

janjan: Hi Jason.....I'm trying to search any relatives from England. My parents were from the Manchester area originally. My father's name is George. You could please ask any relatives if they know the name.
Jas: huh? I suspect that there are literally thousands of people called George in Manchester
janjan: LOL, no kidding.....but he immigrated to Canada in 1950, I'm his daughter.
But my grandfather (Claud), was one of 7 brother's.....someone in England has got to be related out there!!!
Jas: right........
i'll go ask the other 60,000,000 people living here if they know him
janjan: LOL.......no just your relatives. what's your mom's name, grandmother etc......I can narrow the rest down hehe

What the hell? Does this woman want me to find her dad in manchester? Why does she think I give a damn? Even if I did does she think that I could do anything about it?

What with all the porn ads, AOL ads, bull$hitting americans, people from thailand asking for jobs, and chain fu*king letters I have practially given up on it.

The spam messages are nothing new, they have been around for years.
Im confused though, you don't ignore it, why the conversation?

My icq is forever being spammed, i left my pc on last night to download a film, and forgot to turn ICQ off, i woke up this morning with 7 messages from total peons waiting, and about 4 pager messages :(

You can turn off all the pager and email-express shite in the options - I have no problems now. Change your settings so they have to be on your contact list before they can talk to you too. Total privacy now guarenteed.:D

I think they found out that the pager tool was a good spamming tool. Was getting p'ed of about it.

also people send the same message but just change their name and send porn and all that ;)

'Back in the day' when I had a hotmail account I got an email from a bloke claiming he'd killed my family while I was out that day. That was nice. Checking the header stuff I sussed he was American and was probably slightly tapped (obviously his psychological state wasn't in the header information for all the smart arses out there :D) . The fact that I was in my house with my entire family also made him look a bit silly.

Yes I'm sure he was thoroughly upset and went home crying.

Unless you failed to reply telling him this, in which case he's probably rocking in the corner of his basement thinking his was a job well done :)
