As you may know I was ice specced till lvl 47 when I respecced to fire. But having witnessed hibby pbaoe in keep defence I've decided maybe I should go back, since I have a respec left due to that bug-thing. I know the pbaoe is good, I was wondering about DD dmg from the baseline ice line (Ice blast - the snare is useless imo due to its short range and conflict with the root). How much does the lvl 50 one do from a lvl 50 ice wizard against lvl 50 enemies? Im thinking of 48 ice / rest fire for better dmg on the baseline bolt. Since there isn't any forseeable change to fire DD's that have high resists these days (although ice isn't any better), pyromancy is no longer tempting.

Maybe any ice theurgs could answer too since you would be using the same ice DD.

Personally, I'm going for 50 ice / 20 earth. That will give me the maximum damage output from my ice spells, and frankly there are not enough points to make any of the other lines do enough damage to make it worth while, so I go for utility instead. 20 earth gives me a 30 seconds AE root (very useful in PvE and RvR) and the bottom GTAE. I'm certainly not going to kill anything with that GTAE, but it's enough to lay down enough caster interruption in tricky keep situations.
As for the baseline ice spec, I think the main advantage of it is it's 2 sec casting time, compared to 3 sec for the spec one with the snare, for the same amount of damage. With chain casting it does 50% more damage in a given time period.

I'm no expert on the subject, but I'd strongly advice you speak to existing ice-wizards.

Your damage is very situation-dependant, and it's not often you're PBAoE'ing at the lord.


GTAoE may be better, as you have more chances to use it to fulll effect.

lvl50 ice dd is generally ~250 (-110) on most lvl50s can get lucky and get to like 380 with low resists tho

Base ice is 2.6 not 2 secs so it;s not that much better than the snare (15%).

Thanks for your replies people. I think I'll probably stay fire for a little while longer, its just so impressive when you see pbaoe spam and murder in lord rooms
