I got a 120GXP 40Gb back in December and its been sitting in my PC running 24/7 without any problems.

Storage Review has survey on all drives with replies submitted by readers, its a good indication of how well the particular model will fare, but you need to "register" to use it.

Not that I'm daring to question you [ :D ] but don't some manufacturers employ special means to prevent people removing the fans (i.e. physically gluing the fan onto and around the core, so removing it requires potentially damaging brute force)? I'm not sure, but I thought that was the face in some instances.

Kind Regards

yes. well... i can only see the underside of my card but yeh it looks like it. would these just slot out or something? this clicking is really annoying me, and i dunno if its broken or needs a clean.

but that shiney copper gf4 fan thing looks neat.

10 quid to stop clicking? poo i see if i can clean it :p

anything i should know before attempting this?

Yeah I got one of these when the original fan on my Ti4200 died - from Maplins - it was dead easy to fit. The only thing that gave me pause were the memory heat sinks - they seemed designed to fit on memory that was laid out with a different orientation than on my board. In the end I decided to put them on anyway, 'straddling' the memory at 90°, despite fears of uneven cooling. Nothing dramatic has happened yet, though if anyone thinks it's a bad idea to have them installed like that, I'd consider taking them off ... the board didn't come with any heatsink for the memory to start with so ...

As to cleaning the existing fan, then a can of compressed air might be a good thing to use - should be able to get one from most good PC components shops. Or failing that blow on it real hard. Try not to spit. :p
I also often give it a bit of brush down with an old lens brush from time to time.
