IBM 60gxp

I thought it was the 75gxps that had always died. I've had 2 of those with no probs but my 60gxp has died spectacularly on boot-up today. It just kept clicking (it never normaly makes any audible noise) and when I reset it the mobo can't see it no more :(

Any ideas ?

All IBM drives do it

but the 75GXP is the worse with the 120GXP being better than the 60GXP.

/me touches wood that his 75GXP is ok (year old now = time to go titsup.com)

ok, well the 60gxp should easily be replaced by IBM - where did u buy it?

sounds like head crasheroonie or fux0red platter so data recovery is f00kin unlikely!

no offense but LOL - that's a bad break...

from what I know of the 'owners' of tek they're a pretty flaky operation to say the best...

Try to get a replacement if not get a refund and we'll point you in the right direction ;)

Rememba - a replacement means you have to go back to that lot AGAIN if anything goes titsup with a replacement drive.

really? eep!

when did he do that? v. odd as he's meant to be much closer to their #1 competitor

we lives and learns

you can try ibm but I think you have to goto the retailer within the first year :(

I got 2 34gxp in my main PC :) Been in there at least 2 years now and I don't turn off either, no problems yet

If you can get a 34gxp they are just as good as the 60gp and 75gxp ranges (apart from not being ATA100 IIRC), and they are definitely reliable.

I beat you all easily.

I had a 75GXP for ONE WEEK before it crapped out on me completely (the ker-clunk of death problem that IBM are being sued about).

I have another now, which seems to be running ok, but I will be buying a 120Gb Seagate drive in April, just in case.

ordered a WD 80gig to replace it while the ibm goes off to repair-land.
