I would go to a one day one were it not for the fear that, being 15, Id get made fun of, or something.

No, me neither, its never really been an appetising thought. I mean, I know there's the blatant possibility to get drunk etc and have a laugh, but I can do that without risking breaking a few grands worth of equipment persae, and I prefer to be social outside of a little room :)

I also feel that being stuck in a room very close to another player is a little too much :)

yes, and there's always the niggling feeling that they're the kind of vocal player who will sit and scream and question the game when they die. Which angers me greatly, its one thing talking to me when I'm playing - I can deal with that, its socialising, great. But cunts who insist on going "fuck how" etc only server the purpose of being the first to get the screwdriver through their nasal cavities. (sic)

i can completely see where you're coming from Kez. we have a lan in the student house we live in and sometimes it gets very VERY annoying... "CUNT!" is a favourite death shout at the moment... "that bullet did not touch me!" is one that really pisses me off... you're dead (usually for a reason), it's a game, play on...

but i went to a local lan meet earlier in the year where a full human grid 22 player grand prix 3 session was played... that was the best muliplayer i've ever participated in. you'd think in that group of 22, there would be at least 2 or 3 wankers, but that wasn't the case at all. effing marvellous it was.

the second best multiplayer i've ever had (the ranking stops at 2 btw :)) was a bog standard 5 player game of half life on the nuke level. the size of the level is perfect, the idea of getting to the bunker and enabling the nuke is a stroke of genius, the limited entrances to the bunker once the nuke HAS been set are brilliant (especially the way when the main doors close, you have to climb one of the two ladders to get in, leaving yourself extremely vulnerable) and generally this map forced me to be my cunning and devious best in order to win. and this is what makes a good map. forcing the player to think in order to survive/do well.

also, the amount of complete plebs i've had on my cs teams have really put me off team games, although ctf on facing worlds in ut is a classic also.

christ, i ramble... :)

*cough* *splutter* www.shotgunlan.com *cough*

LANparties are mint, I've been going to/running them for..ummm...4-5 years now. Never been to an I-series, LANs that big don't appeal. In a small LAN if you get a TKing n00b you can just block the port (managed switched rule ;)) and lay into em with a bb gun :D Soon sorts em out.

Just make sure the venue has showers, 60 gamers + 3 days gaming = one group of smelly ghets :)

Definitely have to say that all my best gaming experiences have been at LANparties, ranging from my first 2-player doom/descent matches over a serial cable, to my last LAN with some bigass OpFlash games :D

I went to i2 through i7 and they were all a lot of fun. Highlights included [RGS]Reaper getting handcuffed to his chair while he was sleeping, Dimebag getting kicked out for "hacking" the IRC server, and any one of the curries that we went for. Yes, there are a great deal of sweaty people (they were the ones we stood at the bar and took the piss out of very very audibly), and the CS llamas were indeed very very lame (playing CS all weekend borders on sad in my view), but I'm still planning on going to i9.

The best multiplayer games I've had at LAN's were all the stupid ones, like 2 hours sessions of Qpong, Excessive UT and Co-op Serious Sam. Smacking hol down at Doom was very amusing aswell :)

About the shouty people, that's usually me :) Yelling "FUCK OFF CUNT" always makes you feel better after you've been sniped for the 400th time of CTF-Face :)

Thats just taunting though, I suspect that amongst a group of people who could hear me, if I was getting beat down, I'd consider telling them to die or something in a humourous way, it just angers me that people 'talk' to their pc when they die.

Lans rule, but I agree with mid_gen, lans the size of the i series don't interest me either... I have adsl at home, so I don't go to lans for the ping... 1000 people all hidden behind monitors - same thing as playing online... it's way too impersonal... on the other hand, smaller lans like www.shotgunlan.com and www.roweb.co.uk are excellent... small, friendly, and just hours of great fun with great people.
