Have you tried importing one brooky? You will find it near impossible to get one in the UK that is not sold at an extorinate price.

all second hand but you get a warranty from them etc. bought phones and consoles from there before, never had any problems at all. you can trade stuff in against the value of stuff you buy also which is nice - they also have a price guide online for what they'll pay for your stuff.

Um, DVD playback on the PS3 is REGION locked so be wary of where you purchase one from.

Yes they are yaka, thats a given with any format when the protection has been removed. Try to think of Brooky's purchased DVD collection, I reckon that is region 2. Therefore my statement stands.

I was thinking more of him importing one from Europe, so the region coding would not be an issue.

i know, I know old but have to add this, sorry guys here in the AUS we run on Region 4 (the higher the region the cheaper the dvd (whoop whoop). So yeah that won't help.

I paid £250 for my second-hand PS3 (60GB version) last year but that was in a private sale over my ISP's forum
The main reasons for wanting a 60GB version as opposed to the more recent ones are:
  • Larger HDD (but you can swap/upgrade them easily).
  • 4 USB ports instead of 2.
  • SD card reader included under the front flap.
  • Play SACDs
  • Plays PS1 *AND* a lot of PS2 games in emulation. It also upscales them, but the jaggies get exaggerated.

My PS3 is a UK version and plays R2 DVDs fine, but rejects R1 DVDs. It also plays Region B bluray discs but not Region A or C. The vast majority of blurays though are multi-region ABC so they play okay. As long as you get a UK/EU version you'll be fine.

different dvd region, but same BD region :)

Also, did Sony not include a mutli-region for DVD in one of the latest firmware upgrades, or was I dreaming that?

Pricing mainly, they can't get away with silly prices in poorer regions so they region lock them and sell the discs cheaper. It is all profit at the end of the day.
