I think ive broken my processor

Well i took the ram and hard drive out of my old computer today, and installed it into the new one...

Old Computer:
6 GB Drive
64 MB SD Ram

New Computer:
128mb Ram SD Ram
1.2ghz Celeron
Windows XP Pro

Now whenever i open my software sequencing programs an load in my instrumentals, it just munches the processor like theres no tomorrow... when its jus idle an everythings loaded in it uses over 60% of the processor. Which it didnt before i installed the new Ram and hard drive...

What I Did:
Installed 64MB SD Ram next to my 128MB SD Ram. Installed 6GB drive on top of my current 20GB one... Ive tried restarting.. at first it only read 190mb ram though, then i opened it up and made sure it was in properly (which it wasnt) an now it reads 192mb ram... an i restarted again jus then, but the processor is still instable and not working propely. Now i havent done any of this hardware installation before really, i did a bit at college before i quit... but i made sure i was grounded. I ended up having to remove data cables off the motherboard, removing the fan off the processor (of course i put em all back afterwards), i set the drive i installed to slave and plugged it in etc... but my processor has jus seen a major decrease in performance than before i did this... the other is read properly an i tested puttin sumthing on it, and it worked... can anyone shed light onto why this is happening please? an maybe a solution? id really appreciate any help...

Are you booting from the hard drive that was originally in your new computer, or are you booting into the installation of Windows that was in your old computer?

What I'm getting at is are you booting into a version of windows that was installed in your new computer?

Also, open Task Manager to see which process is using up your CPU time. You might be able to isolate the problem to one particular application.

well the drive i put in didnt have an O/S installed, it was an empty formatted drive... so i guess i was booting off the normal O/S...

its the software i use taking up the processor... but its taking up loads loads more than it did pre-ugrade

Which software? It might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling whatever software it is. Check for a newer version, too.

Have you tried totally rebuilding the PC again, take it all apart and start from scratch. What motherboard you got?

Dammit, man! Tell us which software is hogging the CPU! Your stuttering MP3 file is probably as a result of insufficient processor time to play the music.

Right-click on the taskbar, select Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, then click on the CPU column title to sort by usage. Could you post the top three processes which are using the most of CPU time?

Dosnt XP need a whole lot more than 128mb of ram to run properly?

Its base requirement is 128 but it would be wise to run it on at least 256.

What OS did you have before?

XP will run on 64 meg of ram
its a bit slow, but it still works

It does sound like its using the virtual memory though.

Min requirement is 64MB but thats stupid, so is the recommended of 128MB...tbh it slightly depnds on what apps you're running.

You XP machine needs more RAM, especially if you are using other processor intensive applications while listening to your MP3's. It's bound to jump and stutter through your music while you load and unload programs into your RAM.

yeah I tryed running my older machine p3-450, 128mb ram with XP Pro it took the piss, I thought it was just because the whole thing was fairly old, but I grabbed another 128 stick and low and behold it runs fairly well now! XP doesn't like less than 256 really... also maybe a reformat and reinstall of everything??
