I want to get into a career in writing but I think my grammer/punctuation whatever is awful. I've thought about getting that book "eats, shoots & leaves", but any other advice on how I can improve it?

haha fucking hell I just realised how I spelled the title. fuck.

plenty of books & resources on-line
if you've spare cash, get a private tutor. No substitute for 1-2-1 tuition. Prob won't cost that much either

Slow down, rewrite and check what you've written.

Thing is though, if you don't have the gene for writing and especially if you lack the imagination, you'll manage maybe a mediocre pamflet.

It's just so frustrating because say for example in my leving cert, which is the test we do here before college, I got an A1 in English. This means that you got over 90%. The thing is I know I lost the 10% because of my spelling and grammer. It's all well and good ignoring the problem now that I'm in college where I just get a slap on the wrist for getting it wrong, but I know that once I get out looking for a real job they will laugh me out the door if I cant write professionaly as well as creativly.

lol stop hanging yourself!

Go to your library the literature books are all in the 800 section, literacy and things are around the 400s, eats shoots and leaves is 421.1 (no I don't have a saddo librarian memory I got the book next to me on my shelf lol). They have a huge range of language and literacy books and they are free, I myself have a fatal addition to commas so you are not alone in your quest for better writing skills!

If you´re planning to write ficiton or anything related, don´t worry too much with your grammar/punctuation. You´ll have to have a proofreader to take care of that (as well as all stylistical and semantical mistakes). I worked with a couple of professional writers in the past and although they´re usually quite good at what they do, they always let someone check their texts.

A fatal addition? Math sure is evil! :)

Oh another good trick i've noticed and used myself for years now; don't take short-cuts.

Things like lol, starting setence without a capital, not punctuating and so on are all your enemies. They lul you into a sense that it's ok to take the short route.

I guess its easier to play video games, get drunk, get stoned on skunk, and listen to drum & bass then bother about an education or a job
