I quit my old job beacuse i thought i would need to get a better one paying more money becuase im going to be getting a flat with some mates.

But unfortunatly i haven't got a job yet - and im running out of money reeeeeely fast. Im a student but im finished by about 3 each day so i dont really have the time to work in a shop, because at weekends im usually in Edinburgh seeing my girlfriend.

Ideally i want a pub/club job beacuse i can do like 3 - 10 or something. But if i do that then i wont have much time to study (not like i do that anyway).

I went to Subway and a pizza place to see if they had any forms but they didn't - so do i take that as its not worth applying there beacuse if they ran out of forms then there would be people better suited for the job?

Any advice on getting a job? like what you think would be best for a student?

Im thinking about building computer systems for people - like if i buy bout £400 worth of kit i can sell my old pee-cee but the thing is a 2.4 with 512 megs of ram wont be any more than about £400 so i wouldn't really be making money off that.

I could try my hand at online gambling but i dont want to lose :(

Where have you got jobs? and im asking the student population mostly

super markets love students!

seriously, as a student you could work 5-10, 4-9 or whatever shifts most nights, and on a weekend work a 7-5 or something(sunday is best, time and half), which is what i did. wasn't earning all that much, maxed out at £500 a month but kept me going(with only bout £10 national insurance tax :))

next time you go shopping, nip into your local supermarket and ask behind customer services if they have any jobs going. dont expect anything better than stacking shelves tho ;) its fun tho, cuz mostly you just work with other students and its a good laugh when theres no manager on during nights, yogurt fights in the back up :D:D

My girlfriend also tried subway but they just told her to take in a CV/letter instead - I actually prefer that to crappy application forms with bullshit questions about "when was the last time you accomplished something in a team in the face of adversity whilst remaining polite?" or the like. She didn't get the job tho

I don't have a job because I have too much other crap to do [like I'm doing now in fact...], and we're not allowed to get jobs in term unless you're working for the uni anyway. I've always fancied holding a 'Golf Sale --->' sign though...or maybe one of those Stop/Go ones you get at roadworks where they can't afford traffic lights - there's some entertainment with traffic mis-direction to be had there.

Do the online gambling thing, its working for me. Just learn to play texas hold'em well, there are a lot of stupid yanks out there who will give you all their moneys :D

Hmm oh and when I was at Southampton I knew a few students who used to get quite a lot of cash for small weekly deposits, but then you dont wanna be a proffesional wanker do you?

To be honest though, dont waste them quality years of your life doing some crappy job if you can help it. Fillup on student loans, hassle your family, have fun with your GF and devote yourself to your studies.

Try a off-license. I worked for a well known chain of em for about 2 years. They'll take pretty much anyone ;) and you get discounts on booze. They love evening workers.
Only downside is you have to put up with the idiots on a saturday night, depending on the location.

Gambling is just.....bad, friend had a casino party for her 18th last year she hired a local horse race course and the surrounding buildings and had casino game, roulette etc put in them was a big posh party. Me and a few friends decided to go to the real casino afterwards we went all applied for membership went in and entered a hold'em up tournament. We didnt do so bad was 4 of us including me 2 dropped out in first few tables and me and another friend went onto the final table and came out with about £700 a piece. Well that was the start we started going weekly then every 2-3 days winning some losing some but you will nearly always lose more then you win, which is what happened to me. Ended up borrowing a substantial amount of money, off a Chinese guy who used to go as regularly as me, when my winnings ran out. I was lucky one of my friends who i first went to the casino told his mother about my debt problems she told my mother who subsequentially cancelled my casino membership and forced me to get a job before i went futher into debt :p
Dont gamble!!
Tesco's pay £7.20 an hour for the death shift started off working there, then started working in my local Frankie and Bennys behind the bar, great place to work. Free meals, drinks and they teach you bar flair which makes it much easier to get other bar jobs if thats what your into :) If your more into flair though TGI Fridays is great ;)
