I'm scripting a configuration management thingy, and it's hell tbh. I can live with certain things, like an OS being different from version 8 to version 9. That's minor, as you test which version of the OS you're running and ding!! you're there. I can accept software changing from version to version, like Oracle8.* and 9.* being different. This is slightly more shit, because I test for Oracle's version with sqlplus, and that little proggy takes a -? or a -V switch depending on which version of the product is installed. A chicken/egg paradox, because I can't test for a version properly without knowing the version. Gogo magic brainquake. All of that I can deal with though.....but now I give you.......the stupid vendor!!! *badum-tish*

The stupid vendor will do nasties. He will include characters in serial numbers that cause sillyness like [, ! or ^ (thank you Matshita). He will use single-character revision and/or serial numbers so that you can't search an array or hash for uniqueness (thanks HP), he will iterate the same number in different fields so you have to pass all your output through a filter that removes all double lines (thanks Symbios)......AND THEY'RE DOING IT JUST TO PISS ME OFF!!!

I managed to break one of those
The corkscrew thing just somehow managed to twist upwards - then i realised if i put another 30p in i would get 10 chocolate biscuits as the whole corkscrew thing wouldn't be incontact with the sweets and they all just tumbled out
