I uninstalled icq2k other day, my horror of seeing a 128mb installation in the add/remove folder led to my revertion to icq99b, which i'm fumbling to find in my downloads.

Well I just use the latest Windows one, then again that won't work on your....mooooo.

embattle, I have always used a client called licq that speaks the icq [and iirc the icq2000 one too] protocol just fine.
if it suddenly doesn't work after nearly a years perfect service it's not an os thing.
now go and soak your scrot in battery acid like a good little munchkin. bye.

found some stuff:

3.12: I can't connect to someone using the ICQ200b client!

ICQ 2000b by default is set to not allow connections with older clients, like Licq. To work around this, the ICQ 2000 user must go into the ICQ Menu, then Security and Preferences, and then the Ignore tab.
They must uncheck the "Do not allow Direct Connection with previous ICQ software versions" box. Also, on the Direct Connection tab, they must make sure that the Allow Direct Connection selection is set appropriately for this instance. It can vary.

Just stating facts, if it untrue I would like to see you install the win version of ICQ on linux
