Go farm seals/cash in DF (make sure to get lots of gold, you'll need it), and then go raid the merchants for the charged shields - carry 5/6 of them. Then, when you're sitting picking your nose on a Keep Defense you can zap any mages out there. Of course, you're tossing around 15g a charge, but at least it's some form of ranged attack other than the crap axes. Was damn amusing to DoT an elf mage that came to close to the wall and watch him run away burning.

Other than that, try pick a target through the gates...

One kind word: don’t. You die like a fly to aoe and then a seer has to come down from battlements to rez you while people actually doin damage to the enemy need heals and rezzes up there.

In a keep defence there is two things melee can do.

1. Guard climbspots and or ranged groupmates against assassin classes.

2. Carry wood at all times and repair doors from inside.

Makes ya quite useful in defensive sieges. If yer lucky, might even get to leach some rp from them ranged types.

Sure...guard the Climb spots, so that the tall troll can be easily targetted for AE DoTs, Mezzes, stuns, etc. And then stand there as the enemy assassins freely pick a target anyway...

Warriors have no place in a keep defense. Every other class in Mid can do something effective at a keep defense.

- Mages can nuke,
- Seers can mezz/root/heal/DoT (Shammies)
- Skalds can DD and provide healing/damage chant, as well as insta-mezz assassins.
- Thanes can Mjollnir those gates for all they're worth.
- Hunters can shoot.
- SBs have their own little war going on.

Seems only Zerkers fall into the same boat as us, except they don't have any form of ranged attack yet...

Let's see, any other classes totally CRAP at keep defenses? Hero perhaps?

Well, you can allways carry around a catapult Glauthrong ;)

Then you can be useful and carry around your own aoe :p

Hmm...what's a catapult weigh? Someone direct me to a sight for details. Would mean having to leave a lot of stuff vaulted. But might at least make it fun. Build my own catapult on the Keep wall... :D

I like it...

Well, apply same farming tactic - smile purdyly to your favourite crafters ;)
And of course, waste a point or two in Lifter :D

Can somebody take a second or two to explain to this dumb troll, how much a catapult weighs, including say 20 rounds of ammo...

Thanks.

Nah!

Heroes have a bow :)

You could just stare at the attackers from the battlements, sure that would cause the attackers to go running in fear :)

"Oh no! Glauthrong is in there! Run little Luri friends! Before he eats you!"

<Starts running for the hills>

Oh, wait, silly Elf.

<Danders back, targets Glauthrong, stuns him, heat debuffs him and nukes him to death>

D'oh! Silly trolls, trying to scare my little realmmates like that.

Hint: ALWAYS pick small characters, less chance of you being targettable, and you can always jump to shoot over walls.

Too much.

Your'e quite welcome. Carrying around 400+ weight (387 + ammo) requires no less than two well buffed individuals. Effect of a catapult is exactly what you wanted - it provides non-ranged melee an opportunity to fool around and that only under in rather specific conditions. Actual damage done by them is spectacularly low, even considering the AoE effect. They look impressive. That's about all there is to say good about them.

wtf are u talking about i have 7 throwing skill and i use the shite 10.1??? dps best store baught throwing hammers. You can hit people on a good day for about 100hps thats about the same as i do with a shitty unstyled attack. Yes im the biggest target on the battlements but im guard/protecting a runie or a healer usualy aswell. you see the reaction of a caster after some 8 foot freak hits him with a little red hammer :)

And yes its usually /face nuke, nuke dot, root, mezz or stun :)

but its amusing, but i must stress to warriors dont bother going up there unless you are guarding/protecting a m8 (for the record )

cheers :)

I've hit yellow con hib casters for 450 dmg with xbow (no crit) but usually average around 200-300 dmg. On fighter types its more like 180-230.

Thats 21 spec pts in xbow and +11 with bonuses and RR.
Yeah its silly i just had to see how much xbow could hurt ppl when i rolled :p

btw, Thanes cant Mjolner gates in DEFENCE. Doors still belong to us you know ;)

We can stand on battlements tho, but that makes us an easy target.

hitting people through the door is pretty safe if you do it right, just don't stand there hitting them, hit once, circle round, hit again etc.. minimise the time you are near the door, aoe when you're far from the door doesn't do any dmg really, only thing to be careful of is aoe DoTs, but you can only have one of those on you at a time (excluding RAs) and a big healthy troll warrior should be easily able to withstand one :p
