Hysterias and not understanding them

for the time ive been on the forum i have noticed 3 different hyserias -

a local one - tohtori (for some reason called teh seal)

and also the two others - chuck norris and david hasselhof.

i shall start with the first. if we like it or not, "teh seal" was or still is a hysteria. my self, never understood it and i still dont. what the fuck does "teh seal" mean, where did this name come from and what is so brilliant about teh seal? no offence, but i just dont get it and i never have got it in the past. recent threads pop up called "sealy stuff" implying everyone should know what sealy stuff is. i really got no idea, what is sealy stuff and why do people like it?

then chuck norris. so it was fine with the random fact generator it was pretty funny. then we get chuck norris in imaginary fights. chuck norris doing stuff in pictures. t shirts with chuck norris quotes. what is it all about, why is it so great?

and also david hasselhoff, called things like hoffman and teh hoff. what is so great about him? hes a has been from decades ago. i dont see anything comical about his person, or what he did or even what he may or may not do now. also gone down the same route with pictures, t shirts etc.

i genuinley dont get it. and i would like to know, because there maybe something great i am missing out on

Chuck Norris to me isn't that special... he's ugly and all he can do is roundhouse kick. In my opinion, Arnie is so much better with his hilarious one liners while killing stuff at the same time.

Quite right. Teh Seel thing began back in barrys, around the time of Red Twactor by Unca Sick and such an such. The fact i'm from the polarbears a** is a factor in the name.

I guess, my weird sense of humour got to people and it became a "norm" that i should be "teh funny". It's always been two schools for this, those who like and those who hate. I don't mind people hating it, it's their call.

The "Teh" part is a classic internet typo, which fitted an internet persona quite nicely. Also Seal being wrote as Seel, is a typo thing to emphasize that it's not serious and also to differentiate from the singer Seal.

It's a double edged sword really for me, i'm kinda expected to be "funny" or "odd" and when i get, as Ormorof said, serious, it's something that people don't really care for.

You could say Teh Seel is a thing that's funny by default, not always funny, not always clever, but since it's known, you can get away with some experimental stuff. I never really -tried- to be a craze, it just happened.

The reason i tag things with "Seelie stuff" is for search purposes only, since i've gotten a few messages for "where is that and that", so nowpeople can just search for it.

Though have to be honest, i'm nowhere as nearto the hoff/norris craze that's sweaping the internet.

EDIT: Yes, lately the Seel thing has been quiet, due to personal difficulties in life that i won't go into. When you're not in the state ofmind, the stuff doesn't come up.

the reason i didnt put the orly owl in there, is because i got the orly owl. i even took part in it.

i remember BW days. and uncle sick and his tractor thing. i didnt get that either.

i would say teh seel is a hysteria, if you put it in context with the forum. it is on par with the other things.

The problem I have with most these hysteria's is that they get dragged out way to long. Yes the Chuck Norris/MrT thing was funny. So was Bahamut and his gay love of the Hoff ... so was the Orly owl ... so was All Your Base. But they allllll got dragged out several weeks or months beyond their point of being funny.

There is always 2 or 3 people per forum that stick to an old hysteria and when it's quiet in hysterialand they bring it back up to show how cool they are for still remembering, and staying loyal to, that old hysteria.

Last hysteria I really really got into was the All Your Base one ... I mirrored the original flashfile for months which ended up costing me a pretty penny in bandwith but I didn't care ... it was worth it. There is still loads of photoshops I did going around on the various websites ... it was fun ... but again I thought the fun was over looooooong before others so it just got dull.

tbh i'm more of a clint eastwood fan dirty harry>> but the hoff/norris/mr T thing is amusing to me because im old enough to remember when they were all in fashon and their shows/movies were the bizz (though murdoch was my fave member of the a team) so its a nice lil bit of nostalgia.

as to the.. teh seel, dont think he's a hystera just a rather clever, twisted lil genius. And when he's serious is just as valid (for me anyhoo) as when he wonders off in to the realms of the surreal, tbh if one is surreal or serious or of any firm mind set all the time then it becomes dull and predictable which is something that only happens to b list celebs, so we're all safe here.

well us monkeys are not meant to be solo animals, we tend to form social groups/communities so this jumping on the bandwagon of a particular hysteria is just us trying to establish this n get a sense of belonging n shit.
plus its funneh n allows us to chat about a load of old bollox to pass the time.

i was in danger of succumbing to the Mr T hysteria as i used to be a childhood fan of the A Team but after viewing this i was cured

Well i could be wrong but i suspect that Tohtori is a fan of Terry Pratchett, at least im reminded of that particular brand of humour when i read something he has written.

Oh and i agree wholeheartedly that the Norris and Hoff hysteria is getting really old, and was never funny to start with.
